Zipperfish Zipperfish:
My 6 year old played as a "timbit" player between periods at the Giants game last Friday. The players were fantastic with the kids--signed photos, high fives as they went out on the ice. My son was so pumped that when we got home (10:30 at night--just a little past bedtime) he wanted to go take shots on the net in the dark, in the pissing rain. Of course I said "You bet." He's starting to get a decent wrist shot.

We have the Canucks here, but the Giants games are way better for family outings.

That is so awesome! Good on ya for lettin that boy go out after bed, pissing rain or not, that's what hockey is all about. I really like the timbit program, great way for kids to get into hockey.

Junior hockey is much more family oriented, don't forget about the BCHL teams in the lower mainland. They're fun to watch too.

Both games are at the Crystal Centre in GP and if one team sweeps this weekends games, it would go a long way to clinching at least second place in the north division.

Grande Prairie is on a 9 game winning streak and a 13 game road winning streak after defeating the

WRG and I were treated tonight to possibly the hardest fought intense game of the season thus far. After the Storm beat the Oil Barons last night 7-5 in a pretty wide open affair, tonight's game was a goaltenders duel and a lot tighter checking game. Tonight was also a rough tilt with big hit after big hit being thrown by both teams and only one fight late in the third period. (It was a goodun too... )

At the end of regulation time Grande Prairie had 32 shots on goal and Ft. McMurray had 29, the score was 2-2. Both goaltenders over the course of the game stopped several "sure" goals each, they played awesome.(Ft Mac's goalie was the third star, GP's goalie was the second star)

The first OT period ( 4 on 4 hockey) solved nothing with both teams getting two shots. Just 14 seconds into the second OT period (3 on 3 hockey) the Storm broke in and on a great play from Zahn Raubenheimer followed by a better shot from Tanner Fritz the game was over giving the Storm a 3-2 double OT win. The Storm are now on an 11 Game Winning Streak.......GO STORM!!!!!

This Video is the winning goal from Friday nights game!!

The fourth annual Shoot for the Cure fundraiser will take place on Saturday, December 12, as the Storm host the Calgary Canucks at the Canada Games Arena.

Grande Prairie will once again wear pink jerseys for the event, which were designed by Nine10 and unveiled earlier today. A silent auction will take place during the game, with the winning bidders receiving their jersey off the player’s backs.

There will also be a Frisbee toss held during the second intermission. Up for grabs is a trip for two to anywhere WestJet flies. Proceeds from both the jersey auction and Frisbee toss will go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Shoot for the Cure raised $12,000 last year. Over the past three years, the event has brought nearly $30,000 to the Cancer Society.

“The Grande Prairie Storm organization is pleased to be able to contribute to such a valuable initiative,” said Storm Vice-President, Darrell Radbourne.

“Shoot for the Cure has become such a wonderful community event and we look forward to a continued partnership with the Canadian Cancer Society in the future."

Discounted tickets for Saturday’s game are available through the Canadian Cancer Society. The cost is $10, with half of all proceeds benefiting the charity.

As an added bonus, anyone who purchases their ticket through the society will have their name entered in a draw for an autographed Storm hockey stick.

“The Canadian Cancer Society is very proud to partner with Brekkaas Tank & Vacuum Ltd. and the Grande Prairie Storm, for the past four years with Shoot for the Cure," said Lisa Heck, Revenue Development Coordinator for the Canadian Cancer Society. "This event is a very fun event that not only raises funds for Breast Cancer, but also raises awareness.”

Game time Saturday is 7:30 pm. Tickets are available through the Cancer Society, by phoning 780-538-8205.

You can also purchase tickets through the Crystal Centre Box Office, at 780-538-0387.

I'm still planning on a road trip to Olds to get some pictures in their road uni's for you. But I'm a little intimidated with how good yours are. I'll do my best, it's pretty dark barn in the stands down there.
