I think we should have set election dates, and a way to impeach criminals in our government. Right now it's up to the opposition to get the ball rolling. If it weren't for them we might have to put up with the Liberal criminal racket for another four years.

I'd get us a better military, buy new ships (modern destroyers, one aircraft carrier, some naval aircraft aswell, etc.), some new bases in the north, new SAR planes, and some strategic heavy-lift aircraft. Create universal social programs and improve health care. I would also keep us independent from the states, and stand our ground and not be pushed around. More peacekeeping, be more influential in the world but not through bullying means. I'd also bring back the Airborne regiment but with new members and a new name. Like the 1st Canadian Paratrooper Regiment or something like that. Increase trade with the EU. Try to persuade the Turks and Caicos Islands to become part of Canada and would try to resolve the Hans Island issue.
(I'm leaving some stuff out because I don't want to go on forever with this post .)

I agree, we need to get our military up to something more respectable. That's not to say our individual soldiers, sailors, and airmen are bad, but we need to provide mroe and better tools for them to do their job.
And we need to put more money back into healthcare too. I do not like the way things are heading. Perhaps we need a few years of the NDP to undo a few things the Liberals have let slip
Also, i think we can reduce the number of beaurocrats in office too. Well, every country needs that. I think it is impossible for any government to actually be understaffed. Granted, one function of the gorernment is to help provide jobs for the population, but i don't think that means within the government itself. I'm not saying we should get rid of important positions, just half of the paper pushers. It will have a number of positive effects: it will save paper, save money, and encourage politicians to do more useful work.

reform federal politics, have provincial referendum in every province to see if they like there current system. give provinces more powers. start working on building a republic.
then we dont keep wasting time and money on same things and have no more seperation talk.

Please please PLEASE back your currency with something harder!! Don't allow your government, now or ever, to drag you deeper into the fiat trap and spend more than it has while passing the bill onto you. (Look what that did to us!)
BTW, a remake of the Avro (with any necessary modern touch-up, of course) would actually be a very great idea to get the ball rolling on the kind of military reform movement you're looking for. And it would definitely help to keep things homegrown as much as is practically possible -- unless you don't mind importing Bradleys (*cough cough*). X_x

I strongly recommend the line of Avro Arrow books by Peter Zuuring.

NOTE: It's at the bottom of the page. I have the Arrow scrapbook, it's a really good read.
Bringing back the Avro Arrow would be a good idea.

i cant see any party doing that unless we really started asking for it. I was suprised to hear back from liberals and conservatives when i said the snowbirds should have the planes the military is training with.
only conservatives MP's said they liked the idea liberals didnt say anything worth posting here
the problem is i think alot of people wouldnt support canada making anything for war. It sucks because it would create jobs and it would make defence spending worth while for us

1- Proportional representation in the House of Commons.
2- A reformed or abolished Senate.
3- A substantial tax on gas-guzzlers. Tax breaks on sales of particularly fuel-efficient cars and trucks.
4- Legislation to curtail suburban sprawl.
5- Increased funding for public mass transit.
6- Increased support for culture and the arts.
7- Increased defence budget (2% of GDP). A defence policy that puts the emphasis on protecting Canadian sovereignty.
8- I like the idea of building a 100% accurate, flying replica of the Arrow (I think Zuuring originally proposed this). It would serve as a reminder to Canadians of this country's potential.

I'll pass these suggestions (if undone is a few years) to one of my best friends. He is going into political sciences and wants to go into politics. Personally I would:
1) Improve Millitary (Because even the big friendly neighbour has to defend themselves every once and a while)
2) Keep universal health care, but impose a usage fee. Such as, if you make say under set amount a year, its all free, no matter what. Say if you make more a year, hospital visits say cost $20, but if you require stay, its still free. The more you make, the more a usage fee is, up to a point. Say maximum fee is $100. I'd be willing to pay $20 for an emergency room visit. If that means I wouldn't have to sit behind scared mommy and little billy with the sniffles, I'd go for it. People need to learn that the emergency room is for EMERGENCIES!
3) Legalize marijuana like ciggarettes. Have it completely grown and controlled by the government. Sell it like smokes and have rules like alchohol. Must be 19, no driving, not at work, etc. Tax the heck out of it, and put that money into health care/education. Make it so you can't make money off it (like the government sells it for the same price that 'dealers' are) and that would help cut down on organized crime.
Thats all for now.

I would want to start a political party that is different from the others... one aimed directly at recruiting membership from across ALL Canadian walks of life, and then running way fewer people from the power elite for office, and running way more regular people. For example, fewer ex-CEOs, ex-lawyers and ex-accountants, more ex-farmers, ex-soldiers, ex-police officers, ex-oilmen, etc. It's about time that politics in Canada began representing the people as a whole, not just the interests of a very narrow portion of us.
