Ok peeps,I want to hear your ideas on what would help us get through this latest global crisis, please keep the con/lib thing out of it as Im interested on what Canadians think will keep us in the green. No hack fests please. We have stimulas promised for the auto industry,we have nothing for the west yet,we shouldnt wait untill were all on EI to get the numbers before the govt. says theres a problem. We know theres a problem in the west anyways and I only say that because im in the west and have seen all our mills demolished, our forestry industry finished, lot's of people getting laid off in the mines, the patch is shut down.
The only province looking for workers is Saskatchewan right now. We need some good idea's from Canadians. This is our country, the immigrants that helped settled Canada didnt whine when thing's got hard, they threw their head back and pushed on and settled this rough land against all odd's. We can do it again....idea's?

My priority, infrastructure! Fresh water to towns that have none, irrigation and road work.
Thats just Alberta though,Im only posting on the province I know something about. Put the bids out now!!!!!! Or wait for the next EI figures to come out before you recognize there actually is a problem.
Then it's too late.
sigh,I'm too old for this shit,I can early retire in 3 years, maybe I should take that route, let all you young bucks see what it's like.

Well you took all the fun out of it, for most, when you said no partisan political bullshit and basic flaming. My thoughts are that cuts should start at the top and work down. Big biz CEOs and management make way too much...they should take cuts, it wont happen though. No more bonuses for these guys either. Industry needs to be revamped as well...No one should be making 34 an hour to stand on an assembly line, that needs to be looked at. If one area gets a bail out then all sectors that are feeling the pinch should...its fairness. Politicians should be first and foremost in wage roll back...and with todays technology, expensive jaunts around the world for photo ops are unnecessary as well. I think our 'leaders', I use that loosely, should lead by example and start thinking about the whole of the country than their own pocket books. Buy Canadian, buy local, and support locally. Also, we need to help out our neighbours...if someone needs help and another has the know how to do it...trade one skill for another. Since I dont see anything happening anytime soon, My goal is to win the lotto so I dont have to worry...wish me luck

I'm pretty optimistic,I have only worked 2 weeks this year and pay about $400.00/month to the government every month for compo and EI even though I have no income and am not eligible to collect EI,but you folks that will be collecting it later can thank me when I'm diving in the dumpster for a meal. My last WCB payment yesterday was $700.00.

Infrastructure should be a priority, build it while it's cheap.

I do know what EI is....I just dont see why we should be thanking you. You do know that the rest of us pay into it as well and have done so all our working lives? You start a thread asking about ideas but follow it up with ... $1: I'm pretty optimistic,I have only worked 2 weeks this year and pay about $400.00/month to the government every month for compo and EI even though I have no income and am not eligible to collect EI, but you folks that will be collecting it later can thank me when I'm diving in the dumpster for a meal.My last WCB payment yesterday was $700.00.

We need to develop markest other than the US Softwood lumber should go overseas. Them guys down south are way too stuck on themselves. When they changed the freetrade agreement for softwood, we should have changed it for oil too.

mtbr mtbr: Infrastructure should be a priority, build it while it's cheap. Infrastructure is never cheap. The government runs it. A little deficit to keep things running, but we shouldn't be putting ourselves in the poorhouse over it.

Just trying to show what you go through starting your own bussiness,I got allmost 15,000 invested to do it,I cant go on EI even though I pay mega bucks into it. You do realize I cant collect EI right? Even though I pay hundreds of dollars into it every month? Just want to clear that up and then we can move on.

mtbr mtbr: Infrastructure should be a priority, build it while it's cheap. yup, theres a few outfits that got bids and they are trying to cut the wages. Pretty funny actually,BYZ,Caliber and a few others in Alberta are looking to lower wages by half for government jobs.
