Hi!

I'm not sure if this subforum is the proper one to put this topic. If not, please tell me and take it to the proper place.
I would like to know, what opinion you have on Poland and the Polish Nation.

Some media (especially the so called Western media) keep slandering Poland and the Poles, as "homophobes" or "antisemites", sometimes as "thieves". It's an enormous scandal, it's a shame.

Homophobia? What homophobia? There are some people who don't accept the homosexualists and it doesn't vary among nations. Poles are not more homophobic than any other nation, actually. It is just the media, who make noise about isolated cases and exacerbate their medial "echo". You know what I mean, I hope.

Antisemitism? What antisemitism? There are some people who don't accept the Jews and it doesn't vary among nations. Poles are not more antisemitist than any other nation. Inversely! It was Poland, where the Jews had their rights guaranteed already in the 1573! In other parts of Europe, Jews were exorcised from the countries, there citizen laws were actually none - not in Poland! The law act called "Warsaw Confederation" guaranteed the Jews and the other minorities in Poland their rights.

It was Poland, where there was no religion war, no antisemitist incidents, no extermination of the Jews!

It was politically weakened Poland, which had been partitioned - and almost nobody has protested then. Only the Ottoman Empire had never accepted the partitions of Poland. Also Denmark has reacted diplomatically.

Not Poles, but German N a z i s have killed the people in occupied Poland (not only the Jews, but many Poles have died due to the Nazi terror, many other people: Russians, Ukrainians, Romanians and others - every number more is one life more)! There were no "Polish death camps" - this name is a terrible scandal! There were only "Nazi/Hitlerist death camps".

People, the history of Poland is so complicated, that it is impossible to solidly and reliably tell it to you in one short forum topic. But believe me, please. I don't lie, I don't want to lie anyhow, I only want Poland not to be so shamefully slandered.

Some people who say, that Poland was/has been/is an antisemitist country, are liars. They slander Poland and Poles shamefully. The Poles actually helped the Jews commonly in occupied Poland during the 2. World War.

The Poles were the 4th army, who have fighted in the war - the Polish aviators have saved England in 1940 when Hitler wanted to overtake it - the Poles got "as a reward" the communist regime for the next 45 years, due to the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences. Isn't it a shameful scandal?...

Please only read the first sentence from the article:
"Polish Righteous among the Nations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"
(I'm not able to post any URL address yet)...

Polish citizens have the highest count of Righteous among the Nations in the world, at 6,066,[1] despite the fact that in German-occupied Poland all household members were punished by death if a Jew were found concealed in their home or on their property.

People! Please, think on your own! Do not overtake every thought, which the media give you!

Please, tell your family, friends, acquaintances what I have told you here. Do not let the liars slander Poland and the Polish Nation.

And if you do not agree with me - then tell me, in which point of the above text I am wrong. Tell me freely.

Thanks for reading the whole text and for your patience. All the good to you!

Nowy

P.S. I'm not sure if I'll be able to post in the nearest future, but feel free to write.

I work with a guy whose parents arrived in Canada from Poland back in the late 70's. He is the most racist, sexist, bigoted and anti-Semitic person I know. I call him on it all the time, and he admits he is all of these things and will probably never change. I understand he does not represent the polish people, but he is the only one I know and as far as he has told me his family and his friends back in Poland share the same view as he does.
Still though, a major group of polish citizens must have created this stereotype, although you find it offensive, it is not the job of the constitution to protect your right to not be offended.
The best way to fight this stereotype is to single out polish people who represent this stereotype and let people know they do not reflect what the polish people are today. Come out and admit yes, there are assholes in Poland who are like this, but, they are only a minority. The worst thing to do in rebuttal of such statements is say the polish people are nothing like this and you don’t have the right to offend me by saying it.

ok Nowy, couple of points..

I am Canadian, living in Eastern Europe last few years. Here's what i will comment:

There are gangs of kids in Eastern Europe who do bash on gays in the larger cities,
it is reality, and it includes Poland.

Same with Anitsemetism, just because words have been written in the Justice Code,
does not mean the rules have been enforced.

'Polish death camps', meaning the camps placed on Polish soil, as oppposed to
Russian camps.. camps on Russian soil
Ukranian camps
German camps
etc.

i think simply you misinterpret the English language.

The history of Europe , both East and West, is complicated, not just Poland.

my observations when i first arrived in the East were, that people here
were stuck with a mentality from 1945, which included higher levels of
racism, homophobia, xenophobia, and antisemitism.
That is changing, however.

4th army.. i will disagree in principle, and i leave it to others more qualified
than me to discuss actual numbers of fighting men during the war.
It is true that some Polish troops managed to escape to Britain,
and they did serve with the West with distinction.

As far as your 'reward', you were geographically too close to the Soviet Union,
and Stalin wanted a buffer of influence between him and Germany;
and he was going to get it, no matter the cost.
People in Czechoslovakia have complained about the same idea, but just cant realize
that was the situation.. period.

Last, i do not doubt many Polish people did help Jews during the war.
Perhaps you have so many recipients because there was so much going on in Poland
for so long. Which is not to take away from these heroic people.

Ohhhhh, someone is opening a can of worms

I am Dutch... I can and will only speak of my own experience... Poland is politically and economically not ready to join the West.

"Polish people" is a generalization that is not fair to any of them. Not all are asses, not all are nice. "They" are not my favourites, however.

Lots of ethnic Poles in Canada. Good people. Not liking that Poland is in possession of Prussia but I'm willing to let that one pass for now.

What makes you think the Poles are any better or worse than what you just named, Hwack?

To Western Europe, the Poles are a drama that, due to EU politics, work cheap, and wreck western economy.

Because i've been to all said countries, I'll take the Poles over any of them. When you go to see these countries please post what you see.

You say they are better HERE. Not in their own country.

Of course you take a European country over an Asian or Middle East one. That is not even a fair comparison. At least the Poles have the same skin colour as you have, right? ;-)

No actually I use the bus effect.

Now most people have BO and most of the groups I mentioned don’t take any precautions in that area but it takes a real special group to stink like the food you eaten 3 days ago to make a person gag.

The Bus Effect

If you go on the bus or subway and you find yourself in the vicinity of a nasty odor take note of who is the rude culprit. Most of the time it will be one of the group I mentioned. If you’re so ignorant to go out in public and not think of your fellow citizens maybe you should be allowed in public.

Now in their countries it’s the norm to smell like a pig farm, when I visit I don’t shower or brush my teeth at all just to fit in
