Hey y'all

First off, I just want to say you guys seem like a great bunch of people.

ANyway, just thougt I'd introduce myself.

I grew up in Canada (Calgary) and had to move to the States last year because of family issues. I'm planning on moving back to Canada next year after graduation. I want to go to college there...cheaper and a better fit for me then here, I think.

Any advice on how to tell your parents their oldest child is moving to a different country? Let's just say...they really don't want to let me go. I've been homeschooled all my life and my parents are really used to the whole family thing...you know, everyone being together and stuff. So I'm trying to convince them...but so far it's not working too well.

Any tidbits of information anyone may have about moving back or whatever would be much appreciated! (I do have dual citizenship, so that won't be a problem)

Home school... WOW... my wife is home schooling. Sorry to disappoint you, but it will be very hard for them to let you go.

Now, First off, How far are you from a Decent College? What is the price difference between that college and one of ours? (Including a roof and transportation). I know here in Halifax we have 3 reputable Universities. Dalhousie or Mount St-Vincent would make a great choice. Mc-Gill in Montreal is very good too. To help you pick a good one in Canada, McLean’s prints a list of the Best Universities in Canada. Good luck.

PS. If your parents are scared that you are gonna end up in bars and stuff, try Acadia University, in the heart of Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. They made the McLean’s list for a number of years now. The Annapolis Valley is in the middle of... not much. Beautiful and very quiet place. A tad more expensive because of a stupid laptop fee. You rent a laptop from them. Their is a lot of cons and pros on this one. If you don't have a computer, then you don't need to buy one. But you would get a quality education.

Homeschooling is awesome. Eleven years of it, and I have never once wanted to go to school. Much better to study at your own pace, and focus on the subjects you're interested in.

I think I'll probably end up back in Alberta. I have friends there, and that's the part of the country that I grew up in. I would love to travel across the country though...the Maritimes sound beautiful.

I travel a lot, which my mum hates, she's always been very protective (Or else its just a universal mother thing?). Anyway when I told her I was going to travel around Europe for a year she almost cried !!!

To cut a long story short, all you can really tell your mother/family is what I told my mum "If you miss me now you'll be even happier the next time you see me".

it will be hard for both you and your parents...i moved to a new state (not as far as a country) the day after I graduated high school and my mom thought it was terrible....you get used to it but it's hard at first....

if you don't take the step to follow your dreams now, it only gets harder as you settle into a life, meet new people, start a relationship, etc.

Some of the Canadian universities that have very good reputaions that are the nearest to you approximate location would be possibley McMasters University in Hamilton, University of Toronto, Ryerson Poytechnic is a University tech sorta school it's in toronto, Carelton Univercity is in Ottawa. I'm a westy and I kinda like U of C and U of A

Thanks...I'm looking at the U of A and Concordia University College of Alberta, among others as well as some in BC. Anywhere with a strong business program, pretty much. Since I won't have family nearby, I want to stay fairly close to my friends...plus i grew up in alberta.
