A bit ironic, people immigrate to Canada, yet never seem to show their ''Canadian'' Pride. They decide to display their own homeland pride instead.

That goes without saying mate. It is understood a person would be proud to be Canadian specially someone who grew up there and at the sametime be proud of their roots. You must have heard this saying before, the roots makes the man. If you forget where your roots are from you're basically nothing.
Nothing ticks me off than seeying an immigrant totally denying or even worse ashamed of where they from and trying to act like something they aint and trust me I've seen loads. And many cases immigrant or their children almost never get fully accepted by their host country as one of their own be it in the work place or the play ground and having to something to identify with gives them a sense of belonging and nothing wrong with that.
Like Bren for example, no matter how long she lives in Canada she will always be proud of her dutch heritage 20 years from now does it make her anyless Canadian ?
It is totally possible to have the best of both the worlds.
