Calumny,

What a pretty site. Really like the way it looks, very peacful, love the Canadian images. If I can, from an artistic/design point of view, Direct Democracy needs to be bolder. Either outline it with a darker shade of blue or dark grey or black even. Or,lighten the word Canada. Or, outline the whole label altogether with some decorative or geometric design. Or, take the site name all across the page. Mainly because I feel it gets lost in the ad next door to it and one has to really study it to figure out who's boss. K? 8*)

I am very interested in DD. It suits me well in terms of me being someone that wants to have a direct say and I believe everyone needs that for empowerment. Good job.

Geez, everbody's a critic...

Not that I mind.

I've changed the header somewhat. Please let me know what you think (keeping in mind my confessed lack of artistic ability.).

More unsolicited advice.

The header is way better, yet still feels unbalanced. There's too much white beneath the wording. So make lettering bigger or centre it. Even then I think the white may be what is bothering me the most. How about doing the writing in the shape of the Canadian Flag? For instance:

Direct Democracy Canada/ Maple leaf in here/Direct Dem
Direct Democracy Canada/ Maple leaf in here/Direct Dem
Direct Democracy Canada/ Maple leaf in here/Direct Dem
Direct Democracy Canada/ Maple leaf in here/Direct Dem
Direct Democracy Canada/ Maple leaf in here/Direct Dem

Do you see what I mean? The Direct Democracy Canada in red/ red maple leaf/Direct Democracy Canada making up the shape of the Flag. Fill that white space with that wording and shape? But because the pages are so soft the really dark red feels angry somehow. Can you, if making red the sole colour, lighten it a bit?

You know me, INFJ, always looking for perfection. I won't be offended however if you tell me to butt out or that you hate the idea. If you designed the rest of the site you are not without artistic talent by the way.

Is there some meaning behind Cincinnatus?

4Canada, I bet you're using Internet Explorer. I was viewing the site on my wife's PC (she uses IE) and the 'Direct Democracy Canada' logo shows up in a white box, rather than as lettering on the blue background, as is the case in the FireFox and Mozilla browsers I use.

I'll keep working on it. I like your idea however re: the maple leaf however, don't think I have the talent to do it.

Don't suppose you have any illustration type software?
Cincinnatus (Roman patriot) was consul in 460 B.C. and dictator twice (458 and 439). According to tradition, in his first dictatorship he came from his farm to defeat the Aequi and Volscians, who were threatening the city from the east and southeast. He returned from battle, resigned his dictatorship, and went home to his farm.
Cincinnatus is used as an example a citizen who performs his duty to the nation without seeking power or recognition.

I appreciate the feedback.
I use my husbands computer and yes it is IE. I do not have any kind of special design softwear unfortunately. Could you not scan a maple leaf from somewhere into that space? I actually have no idea what I'm talking about I just hear other people and they seem to do things like that. You could even superimpose the flag shape over a photo or collage of photos of Canadian people with Cincinnatus qualities. Don't you wish we had all the design stuff and all the knowhow? I think I could have some fun with it.

Made some minor changes to the logo that should eliminate the white box for IE users. Unfortunately, my knowledge in this area isn't currently topnotch.

If you have a DSL or cable connection and CD burner, you could download the .iso image of SimplyMepis Linux, burn it and install it. This Linux distribution has been designed with M$ Windows users in mind. It coexists with M$ Windows, so at boot time you can choose either Windows or Linux.

The advantage is that a significant amount of open source software is included, e.g., the 'Gimp'image manipulation program, office suite, etc., that in talented hands can, with a bit of a learning curve, be used for a number of interesting purposes.
I don't want to have to be the one to tell you this but, when I go to your site the word Canada ends with the d. LOL and crying.
Hold everything! I just realized that it's coming out on a big screen so that I have to scroll back and forth so that it is all there. My joke on me.

Take Jesse's advice and get Firefox. Much more interesting browser than IE.
