Remember that Christmas trees were invented by the Vikings.
Like em or hate em, you have to admit that the Vikings were pretty hardcore.

Hardcore my ass.

Trees were invented long before the Vikings. All they did was dress them up like a Valley Girl's purse Chihuahua. [B-o]

The real "magic" of Christmas is actually a lack of financial transparency in the family unit. If families were more open and transparent when it comes to budgetary needs and constraints, the magic of Christmas couldn't exist. For example, if I had known as a child that it wasn't Santa who was making my toys but they were actually purchases made by my mother and father, I would have been in a much better position to make informed financial decisions and maybe wouldn't have been as frivolous as I was when it came to my wish list. Don't get me wrong, it cool and everything, but in retrospect, I think a lot of what I thought was magical could have been better spent on other needs that I had.

I seem to recall that the Romans had similar trees for their Saturnia festival.

It's a long way back, though and I can barely remember.

Hyack Hyack:
Winnipegger Winnipegger:
Santa Claus was created in the 1930s by the Coca-Cola company to market their product.

The Dutch name was "Americanized" by the press to become "Santa Claus", first appearing in a publication in 1773.

So, which is it, 1773 or the 1930's?

I think the fact is the modern image of Santa Claus, (the jolly old fat man with white hair and beard, dressed in red and white) was created by the Coca-Cola company in the 30's as a marketing ploy. And the rest is history.....

And season's best to all at CKA.... [B-o]

The name "Santa Claus" appeared in an American publication in 1773, but he didn't have the red suit we know today. Coca-Cola invented that in the 1930s.
