Winnipegger Winnipegger:
Santa Claus was created in the 1930s by the Coca-Cola company to market their product.
The Dutch name was "Americanized" by the press to become "Santa Claus", first appearing in a publication in 1773.
So, which is it, 1773 or the 1930's?
I think the fact is the modern image of Santa Claus, (the jolly old fat man with white hair and beard, dressed in red and white) was created by the Coca-Cola company in the 30's as a marketing ploy. And the rest is history.....

And season's best to all at CKA....

The name "Santa Claus" appeared in an American publication in 1773, but he didn't have the red suit we know today. Coca-Cola invented that in the 1930s.
