There were no survivors. It was a Cargo plane carrying lawn tractors and I believe fish for a company based in London. The company's planes left twice every week for the last 18 months from the Halifax Int. Airport and flies to Spain. All 7 victims were employees from Zimbabwe.

I'm still trying to figure out the DU thing. For ballast? That seems like an awful lot of ballast for a loaded cargo plane to be hauling, never mind that DU is a radioactive heavy metal and the plane was hauling food.

Something seems a little off about the whole deal.

They just kind of sneak it in at the end of the report, kind of an aside. I thought I heard wrong the first time I saw it, but there it is.

Most CBC clips play in Windows Media Player, Laconfir. I prefer media player so I haven't tried WMP on this. You might wanna give it a shot though.

Why on Earth would a plane be carrying depleted uranium? Especially in this day in age. Something is very odd here. Originating out of Hartford, isn't US custom supposed to be checking things like this out? Something is very wrong here. I hope the 60 firefighters monitor and document their health very closely over the next few years. Depleted uranium, no wonder it burned so hot.

Well DU is quite useful.. If you don't have the equipment to use it it is quite uselss. However if you do the only uses it has really is Armor Plating for vehicles... and... Armor peircing bullets!

A DU Bullet, when it hits the target with Body Armor on, will instead of just impacting and being left useless, will expell its outer shell, basically it will constantly sharpen itself so it can continue to peirce. So its useful.

This idea works for Tank Shells and I believe that is what DU is more commonly used with.

So why was it in the plane?

It isn't really that useful either, Laconfir. Nothing that is as dangerous and toxic as DU is truly useful in the long run. Let's call it what it is...a weapon of mass destruction used by governments that are run by war criminals.
