Regina Regina: martin14 martin14: Regina Regina: We're taking one for the team. When Russia gets out of the Ukraine or runs out of money to fund it........the Canadian dollar will rise to normal levels. That's an interesting idea. What would one have to do with the other ? Gas and oil. Maybe just a conspiracy theory though.........but one that makes sense. It's not just a theory and yes, it makes logical sense. http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/03/ ... 2V20140312These oil sales didn't happen all at once, they've been ongoing and designed to create a glut of oil in the market with the multifold intent of sabotaging the Russian oil market, the Keystone XL pipeline, and fracking wells. An unintended consequence is that they've also destabilized Venezuela.

That is so laughably naive...well... . The only people that have any semblance of control over what is going on is the Saudi's...and they are going off the deep end. If you don't believe me, go look up how many new exploration and drilling permits are getting issued. Fun fact about fracking...well head lifespan is counted in months. No new permits...no new wells...a pretty steep fall off. At least with the oil sands, once the upfront costs are done, it can produce at a low cost rate for a very long time.

Thanos Thanos: We should have been bombing the Saudis on Sept 12, 2001, instead of the Bush Adminstration making sure that they all safely got out of the US before any of them could be questioned about their citizens that were crashing the jetliners into the WTC and the Pentagon the day before.
The question for now should be why Persian Gulf oil is being allowed into North America at all when our own domestic production is now capable of sustaining our own needs. The Saudis doing this to recapture their market share should have been met with "oh, not happy with a 20% share instead of the old 30% (or whatever it was)? then enjoy a 0% share because there's now a total import ban on your entire product". But that would require a sense of actual patriotism on the part of the politicians. Not gonna get that from Barack Obama. Or Stephen Harper. Or any of the Canadian leftists who are genuinely glad this is happening because they actively and so truly hate Alberta so much. And especially not from anyone in the Republican Party because they don't even bother to disguise anymore who they're all owned by.
Acceptable collateral damage. It applies to every one of us back home as much as it applied to every American soldier that got sent to die in Iraq for the sake of those evil sons of bitches in Riyadh (and the ones in Tel Aviv too). As soon as more people accept that is exactly what all of us are in the eyes of our leaders the sooner we can move out of the realm of delusion and lies into honesty about our system, about the ones we let control it, and especially about ourselves. I was planning on a US vacation this summer. This really sucks. The only mitigating factor is knowing that Albertans are miserable. "From hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath."

Canadian exporters should be happy. This will make our products appealing and affordable for the American market, and seeing their economic forecast is looking rosy, they'll be buying. Oil takes a hit but forestry may benefit.

martin14 martin14: BartSimpson BartSimpson: I just did a transfer from my CDN$ account to my US$ account (no fee) and the yield was US$0.86 - a year ago when I did this the yield was $1.02. Interesting. Edit: My f***ing Euro account is getting hammered today. GET OUT GET OUT OF THE EURO RIGHT NOW !!!!!!!!!! It will drop more as QE and Greece make a mess, the Euro may lose more than the Canadian dollar. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif) That's right. Our dollar is dropping because it is a "petro-currency". The Euro will plunge because the Club Med countries believe that the World owes them a living. Very different causes ...

Zipperfish Zipperfish: I was planning on a US vacation this summer. We are visiting my wife's family in Kentucky and Virginia beach over spring break, so that's gonna sting a bit. The steel shop I work at quoted some large jobs with expensive materials that we purchase out of WA. The profit margin has gone away. BUT, we have been courting some American customers. No sales yet, but getting some interest.

"From hell's heart I stab at thee; for hate's sake I spit my last breath." Miserable ? Hell no, this is when true Albertan's are at our happiest, this is when we flush all the useless crap out of here, you know the ones that come crawling in here with the Blue and White license plates, that think all they have to do to get their pot of gold is to just show up. With this spring weather we've been enjoying our afternoon coffee on the patio at Timmies with our friends from the patch that all of a sudden have sfa to do and wave to all the U-hauls heading out of town. If they stop and ask what they can do, we suggest they stop at Walmart and buy a new washer and dryer here so they don't have to pay all that tax when they get back home. Miserable ? no no
