Ok, please don't flame me or attack me, but what was this mother thinking? I love pitbulls, had 3 of them before I had kids. They are wonderful loyal animals, slightly territorial but thats ok. But this story just goes to the saying "its not the dog its the owner" She had no respect for her son, nor did she have any for her dogs.

This woman should go to prison for this. She knew the dogs were dangerous but refused to do anything.

And her comment that "It's Nicky's time to go," is even more disgraceful, she should take responsibility for her actions.

She is living proof that humans F#$%^&* animals. what other excuse would you have to love your pet more than your own flesh and blood. Last year there was the famous case where 2 owners were charged with murder committed by their pets. This is what gives the breed a bad name. Not the fact that the dog tore the 12 yr old apart.

Animals react with animal instinct when a female nearby is in heat. Crap so do guys (but thats a different issue completely). The dog should be put down in front of her because the taste of blood changes the animals temperment and it would be a good visual for her to see. (based on her attitude and nothing more)

She should be charged and committed and the lack of remorse is astonishing - from a police officers point of view and a parents point of view.

I'm sure pitbulls are great companions and they might be loyal pets, but I wouldn't trust one as far as I could throw it. How often do you hear after an attack that the dog got along great with the kids - that it "turned" for no apparent reason?

They're unpredictable, and granted, most dogs are, but the difference is that pitties can cause a heck of a lot more damage.

Her &%%& dog roaming FREE inside her house instead of her own kid. Oh the kid didn't know better to stay locked in the basement, he got out, pffft it was his fault if he's dead. COME ON! why didn't she lock the dog instead

I got biten by a pitbull when I was a kid.... I was over to my housekeeper's
house, and she told me he was fine to go over and pet. As soon as I was
within the range of his chain, he promptly ran over and bit my hand... not
serious, but I had quick reflexes ( ;

Boohoo, you love your dog. Get another one and let the kids keep their

I think Canada should pass a law which makes it illegal for a person to own a pitbull if they have children under a specific age residing in the same house.
I love animals a ton but pitbulls are one kind of pet you just can not trust with children. When you throw a neglegent parent in the mix who doesn't do their duties as a parent should than you have a even bigger problem.

I sincerely hope some one bitch slaps that woman. She seems like she needs it.

Maureen Faibish said she ordered Nicholas to stay in the basement while she did errands on June 3, the day he was attacked by one or both of the dogs. She said she was worried about the male dog, Rex, who was acting possessive because the female, Ella, was in heat.

"I put him down there, with a shovel on the door," Faibish told the San Francisco Chronicle. "And I told him: `Stay down there until I come back.' Typical Nicky, he wouldn't listen to me."

Nicholas apparently found a way to open the basement door.

why the he** was the kid locked in the basement... she was doing errands... couldn't her son have.... GONE WITH HER unless she was delivering crack or whatever.
I am, just thankful that she isn't protecting her dogs right to live. She killed her kid.. by locking him in the basement she set the chain of events in motion... What was she thinking.. they should lock her away in solitary for a few years then let her out to ward off an attack by obvisously aggressive dogs... What a stupid stupid woman... Put the dogs in the basement... chain them outside...Lock your son up to protect him from the dogs if the dog was that vicious because his bitch was in heat... then you need to seperate both dogs... put one in the yard the other in the basement. Take your son with you on your crack dealings or what ever other errands you had to do.that were obviously more important than your son... This woman should be charged to the fullest extent of the law. reminded daily that her stupid actions led to the death of her son and both dogs should be put down. If she ever saw the light of day again from a prision cell she should not be allowed to own any pet either especially a pitbull. Imagine living next door to a complete moron like this... oh my god.
