I guess this is as good a place to put this.
I was curious about something in regards to how unified Canada really is.
It would seem that Canada is broken up into 4-5 sections in a number of ways.
• The Maritimes/Newfoundland/Labrador
• Central Canada - Quebec/Ontario
• The West - BC, Alberta, Sask, Man.
• Yukon/Nunavut/Territories
5 if you seperate Quebec and Ontario on their own.
Each section of the nation has their own stereo-types usually made up by other sections of the nation.
Each section of the nation has their own general political attachments.... West is generally Conservative and the East generally Liberal.
As it goes for stereo-typically rich/poor, the Northern Provinces and the Maritimes/Newfoundland/Lab. are the poor provinces, while everything between BC and Quebec is where it's all happening as it goes for jobs, money, etc.
• BC is considered a bunch of potheads
• The prairies are flat, boring and known for the sands
• Ontario is labeled as being much like the US, or having very little identity of their own
• Quebec are seperatists, arrogant to those who don't treat their own culture like royalty while snubbing up their nose towards other's culture.
• Maritimers are pogey-sucking, lazy do-nothings who ask for everything to be handed to them.
• Newfoundlanders/Labs have their own stereo-types from the rest of the country as being not as smart as the rest of us and constant screech drinkers.
• The northern territories/provinces are typically barren icy wastelands where everybody lives in igloos and all the other stereo-types the rest of Canada gets from people in the US.
Did I miss any?
Now I'm not trying to take shots at each province, as I even targeted my own province in equal fashion.... just pointing out the generalized views some have, depending on where you live.
I reflected back on the whole "Coalition" fiasco that occured prior to x-mas, and how that seemed to divide the nation over a number of issues.
Quebec separatism
West vs. East
All the political parties divided against one another and their supporters
Finger pointing at who was at fault more then the other
Which party was screwing up the nation more, ie: Cons, Libs, NDP, Bloc
There's very little for jobs that have come towards the maritimes, all the work seems to be dropped out west, thus more workers from the maritimes have flocked west to where the money is, causing an even greater suck on the maritimes' man power, resources and potiential jobs.... turning some towns into virtual ghost towns. Then when the work drops, the first to go are the maritimers, who are sent back home to fend for themselves once again.
Quebec seperation..... continually never being happy with being a unique province like every other province and their own cultural differences. They want to be their own nation.... or nation within a nation, or whatever it is these days.
I mean, the list goes on and on.
My question is:
Exactly how unified is Canada really?
If we're not really that unified and only stay together for the sake of the name "Canada" and all the odd little benefits that come with it.... then what options are there?
Hypothetically, what do you think would happen if say another situation like the coalition occurs? What would happen if Quebec is branded the bad guys again? What if the PM in power decides to pit East vs. West again? What if we end up with another.... 2.... maybe three more minority governments and very little change?
How would each province/territory/section of the country be able to put aside their differences in some of these issues?
Would we all join together in a more unified manner to make Canada stronger? How??
Would some break from Canada like what has been suggested in the past with such provinces as Quebec, Newfoundland, the Maritimes?
Would they form up to make their own nation?
Would they join the US?
Join back with England/UK?
Or would each province eventually break up into their own seperate States?
What happens to the rest of Canada who wish to remain together?

Now this isn't meant to be some anti-Canadian rant or to get people all pissed over something. This crossed my mind when going over a few threads in here, such as the anti-american thread and how some jabbed their fingers at a paticular province or east/west side of Canada as being at fault for being more anti-US then another.
This same mentality seemed to appear in one of the political threads when the Coalition was brought up in the conversation.
As in regards to the anti-US thread and some people's mentality, sure some of it is all just in good fun and not meant to be serious..... but how far does that really go?
How true is it??
Exactly how Unified is Canada really?
