Count_Lothian Count_Lothian:
someone just got a nomination for being a lefty like it's worse than being a Quebec separatist living in Calgary and ranting about it in bars before closing time.
How would that fare eh? lol.

I think you see now, 'Left' versus 'Right' is no different than 'Sovereigntist' vs 'Separatist' or 'East' vs 'West' or 'North vs 'South'.

It's a wedge issue that divides people into two camps and prevents anything from affecting the status quo.

There was a time, long ago, when all political ideologies saw the merit in compromise because some things actually got done. Then someone had the bright idea of divisive politics, and nothing has been accomplished since.

You find that those who are mocked the most here, are those who hold extreme views, whether it`s in regards to politics, religion or any other issue.

that`s so final.....ridiculing them can be drawn out infinitely for entertainment value. Serves as a safety relief valve and reinforces group cohesion. Nothing brings us all together like a nutball spewing insanity.

Both in Canada and the US, partisanship has been taken to a whole new level. The US system basically only works with compromise. In both cases its the right that is the more extreme here, has taken it to a whole new level.

Like the US congress? Like the Cons attack ads? As I said some posts back, nuance doesn't work on this forum, and to a dolt like you it sure doesn't. You'll dredge up some obscure example and think that proves that both sides are equal in this matter. It's not true in hateful media, it's not true in severe partisanship in government. Sure, both sides do it. One side does it more. Guess you can't see that with black or white vision.

....When?

In the US, the 50's and 60's were known for cooperation between Republicans and Democrats.

Even in Canada, with a Liberal minority government in 2004 they had to appease the Bloc and Reform in order to get anything done. The Reform/CPC took the opposite approach in 2006, instead using the lack of Liberal war chest to goad them in to not killing the minority government.

Are you talking about the American Revolution? The War of the Roses? The Thirty Years War? World War One? World War Two? Or....?

Don't forget Pearson putting in medicare and cpp with a minority govt. And in those the days the invective that flies now would not have flown then - all parties would have disavowed the invective hurler.

I'm not sure I see it "just as" from a perspective of quantity. There's no leftie equivalent to talk radio, Fox or Sun news. On this forum, nobody on the left like Fiddle Dog or JJ, or even what Martin gets away with. Same with in parliament, where Harper and the boys take the prize.

Huh, guess you forgot about Curt, a blind left-wing partisan if I ever saw one.

Derby, another hard lefty, got banned.

Eureka was so blindly partisan he couldn't recognize Truth if she stuck her boobs in his face.

But let's look at the media too. When Harper was elected to a majority govt, the left-wing rags were all waffling on about how the war on women and gays was going to start up again with Harper at the helm. There were "articles" written about the fear that he'd rule by religious decree thereby turning Canada into a pseudo-theocracy.
And here on the forum, Curt was gobbling that bullshit up like a starving Biafran.

However, I think he and the handful of others are the exception to the rule on this forum. It appears that the majority on here, whether right or left, hold views at least somewhat close to center, the realm of rational thought.

I feel ruled under Harper.
I turn to some of his immigration policies and love the guy, but that could be because i find myself turning into a racist on paper.
He has done squat for the economy no matter what the ads say.
His choice in cronies is very questionable . But that could be due to the amount of assholes supporting the present Alliance and betrayal of what was left of the Actual Conservative Party.

Can someone help me out here and tell me something he really did to help Canada grow.

Any area would do?
