Being over here in Scotland, Rugby is the sport to watch and I LOVE it. Imagine my shock when they aired the Churchill Cup live from Edmonton (my birthplace). I was SO excited, as I haven't been back in a couple years and I wanted to see how the Canadian Rugby team fared.
They were absolutely crap, got clobbered by England 24-0. I sent off an angry email to the Canada Rugby site, telling them to watch other international teams and learn how to kick penalties, and a few days later I got an email back from the DIRECTOR saying he was passing it on to the Coaching staff. LOL
Needless to say, what a turn around a week later! The US beat them, but by a narrow margin, 20-19!!

Yeah we beat the US last year, cant remember the score. Its always a good match. To bad i missed it, usually takes half a year before tsn will play it again.
I wish it would get popular enough where rugby games were on tv here more. Even if it were just in BC, Since most of the time (since i've been watching) Teams canadas team is mainly from BC
http://www.bcrugby.com/content/home.asp - email them too

Yes, they are still mostly from BC
They're a good team, they just need to be stronger in the line outs.

CTV Sportsnet carries quite a bit of rugby... sometimes. They carried the entire RWC 2003 live (except when there were two games being played at the same time.) FoxSportsWorld has quite a bit as well and more regular.
Canada sucks huge, but we're still higher ranked than the US. We shouldn't lose to them. And we lose, BADLY, to England's A team, not even their national team. They're best players are in NZ right now touring with the Lions, and getting roundly spanked by the All Blacks. The second test is later today (Friday here, Sat in Wellington, NZ.)
Canadian rugby just aint worth watching. They did do themselves proud when they played the All Blacks in the World Cup in '03, holding them off for 17 minutes. They lost 70-7, or something like that, cuz of the awesome AB counterattack.

The All Blacks are sensational I have to say. Daniel Carter is the best Fly half I've ever seen (which is admitted a bit guiltily because my favorite player is Ronan O'Gara from the Ireland/Munster)
Canada has a lot of potential, but the coaching sucks. Which is why I lambasted them with the email when they lost 24-0 lol

Not wanting to sound pedantic, but the "Scots" are actually "Brits," as are the Welsh and the English. You are probably referring to England, who are the current world champions

Actually, its Wales that are the World Champions, at least with the Six Nations. They kicked England's ass (rightfully so lol)
In Rugby there is no such thing as 'Brit' unless you're referring to the Lions, but even then it's four nations under one banner. Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.
Just so you know, Welsh and Scots don't take kindly to being called British. lol. It's an English term.

England are the current World Champions as they beat the Australians in the Rugby World cup final in november 2003. Brazil are the current world champions at football (soccer). Just because they were beaten in a competition by, say, Argentina in 2004, does not mean that Argentina are the world champions.
For your info, I'm a 'Brit' living in Canada, so I do know one or two things about my countrymen.
In athletics - we compete as Great Britain (the 3 nations and N. ireland) in events such as the Olympic games. Whether a Scot or an Englishman/woman wins a medal - we celebrate it as a win for Great Britain, not for the person winning the medal's individual country of birth.
I am Welsh, yet I'm also proud to be British - so are most of the people I know. My wife is English, yet she is proud to be British too. So, it's not just an "English thing," to be called a Brit. I enjoyed Wales' victory over the English in the Six nations. But, I do not have a "chip on my shoulder" about the English. Until they get beat at the next World Cup (which they will do as sure as eggs are eggs) - they remain the World champs and good on them. I enjoyed them kicking the arrogant Aussies' butts when Wilkinson scored that amazing last kick drop goal. I will also enjoy Wales lifting up the trophy in 2007
The English, as well as the Welsh and Scottish, are fiercely nationalistic. We are all very proud of our heritage. When it comes to inter nation rivalry, yes, I would rather eat my own foot than to see Wales beaten by either the Scots or the English. So, when you say that the Scots were beaten by the Brits - that is like saying that Alberta or even Quebec was beaten by the Canadians at hockey. The Scots are Brits, the Welsh are Brits and the English are Brits. Just because you express the opinion of a few of your Scottish mates, doesn't necessarily mean that what they are saying or expressing is true.
Anyway - enjoy your stay in the UK, where are you staying in Scotland? Are you addicted to Indian curries yet? I'm drooling just thinking about them ![Drool [drool]](./images/smilies/droolies.GIF) .

I can't eat Indian food, curry doesn't agree with me :S
I live just outside Edinburgh, but I work in Linlithgow. I'm here for the long term as I'm engaged to be married to a Scotsman, Hope to be back in Canada in five years though.
I didn't mean any offense towards you, I'm just going by what I observe living over here.
I've been here almost two years now and some things you just never get used to. LOL

Goodness me, no offence taken at all.
There has always been a strong feeling of patriotism re. the Welsh and the Scots - but the English are also feeling the same way now about their nationality. It's nice, but it can get a bit yukky when sports are concerned. We do have so much in common with each other, but we value our different heritages.
Edinburgh is lovely, a wonderful city and the Scots are an awesome people.
We Welsh love our rugby - we have been so terrible at it the past few years - but things are looking much brighter now. Glad that you are enjoying rugby union - I hope that it catches on here as much as soccer has done over here. I coach soccer here in Nova Scotia and it is more popular amongst the kids than baseball. What is also really cool is that the girls really enjoy playing it too. My team are co-ed and the some of the girls are amazing soccer players.
I'd love to see more rugby played here in Eastern Canada.
Have fun in bonny Scotland

All Blacks 48-18 Lions
Not only does Clyde appear to be done for, England is more than done for. Martin Johnson retired, Johnny Wilkinson's been injured... England hasn't done much in the last 1 1/2 years since they won the world cup. (Jonny played 60 minutes yesterday - one convert, two penalties. This is from rugbyrugby.com:
Jonny Wilkinson. He may be a fine fly-half, but he looked ponderous opposite Dan Carter, especially in terms of distribution and speed off the mark. Only rare glimpses of the hard tackling that once marked him out from the rest, and once again showed that he may not have the body for modern rugby.
Rating: 5/10
3rd test chances: out.
Dan Carter. Today became unquestionably the best fly-half in the world. A faultless performance with 33 points telling their own tale. So strong in the tackle, so slick with his hands, and so fast on his feet. Two wonderful tries. Perfection from Carter today.
Rating: 11/10)

I can't wait for the Tri-Nations either. I hope we can get more rugby than we have been getting lately. This morning Sportsnet had Canadian highlights from the London Sevens where we won the Shield. I'm an All Blacks fan, don't mind the Springboks, and I don't like the Wallabies at all. But having said that, I think George Gregan is one of, if not, the best player in the world right now - when he keeps his mouth shut.
I didn't see any of last nights game, but I did read the report on rugbyrugby. It's good to see that SA is back, I was pleased they won last years Tri-Nations and Aussie didn't. But I'm hoping that the AB will get it together this year. They did a number on Clive and the Lions, they have to carry that moment for another month and a half.
