I was out doing pictures at -35C in Northern Manitoba. It buggered up the motor of the lens(Sigma EF 28 - 300 mm zoom) I was using. It still works well in manual.

I just Google searched cold weather degital SLR photography and these are the 2 main points I found...

1. Batteries and cold weather are a bitch
2. Place camera in plastic bag before coming inside and warm up slowly to prevent condensation

Besides that, no problem.

raydan raydan:
I went walking today and didn't bring my camera, followed the St-Laurence near here. Not a lot of snow but I saw tracks of some small animal near the rocks by the water. Couldn't tell what they were but got my answer a couple of minutes later as about 10 partridges jumped up in front of me. :D

Also saw a couple of Mallard ducks yesterday (male and female) just above the falls. Aren't they supposed to be in Florida this time of year... and no, I didn't have my camera. :(

I got a question... how well does a digital SLR support the cold weather?

The cold drains battery life ray. I have two batteries for my 5D2 anyway. Besides that the bodies and lenses vary on weather proofness. The higher end lenses are fully sealed and gasketed for temp highs and lows, dust and to a certain extent, water.

Once your gear has cooled down or warmed up from the inside your house/car temperature you should be fine.

I just love the expression on this guys face. I put a handful of feed on the rockand this guy shows up nearly every time. The other day I was feeding the Chickadees by hand, this guy was in the tree about 3 feet away looking like he very much wanted to come over and grab a peanut.

For shame Hyack. Exposing yourself to innocent birds like that....you ought to be arrested.

You don't want to feed bread to the ducks, there's no nourishment in it and all it does is fill them up with no benefit, go find yourself some grain instead, they'll also taste better next hunting season.

Looked out the window this morning and saw this eagle on a chimney across the street. Grabbed the camera and headed onto the deck to get a few shots. There is a huge oak tree in front of my building which was kinda in the way but here's what I got.

Zoomed in a little more for this one.

A brave crow decided to hang out too. There is another crow in the tree beside the chimney.

I see eagles quite often around where I live but always in flight, not actually perching on any buildings.
