DerbyX DerbyX:
We aren't all Canadians from sea to sea though. I had Aussies and Brits in my school.
Guests in our country really have no right to complain.

I don't think they are.

What about the Natives though? Some do go to our schools. What about the religious kids who belong to religions that actively discourage patriotism as holding allegiance to something other then their god?

For that matter what about the people making the argument that as Canadian kids they should not only have to listen to the national anthem but also be forced to sing it? Why are they wrong?

What about if Canada had its own pledge of allegiance? Should kids be forced to recite it as well since sea to sea we should all be taking an oath to our country?

Mr_Canada Mr_Canada:
*rubs forehead*

So then fuck it! Why bother have an anthem? Not even O Canada can link
the people of this country together! We truly are just a god damn outline on
a map then. If we can't even have it in our schools, why the hell have it at
all? Why are we a country? Seriously. We can't even half-heartedly call
ourselves a true "nation" of people without being excessively vague.
We can't help but giggle when someone says the words "Canadian Culture".

But we can't have even one IOTA of ANYTHING relating to CANADA anymore!?

O Canada is an offencive song that will offend Brits and Aussies? How the hell are they in our schools without being citizens?

I don't care what the Christians said... because they are wrong.
This isn't "Christada". it's "Canada". And It will always STAY that damn way.
This is about Canada, not religion. This is a country of Canadians.
No matter where they came from, they are here, they are Canadian.

But mind aswell say screw it.

Let's sell the country to the UN. Get rid of the Anthem, Flag... Damn, it's
sad when that's virtually all we have and people still argue to remove those.

We are talking degrees here. Why every morning? Why not at the start of every period? Why not every hour? Why just listen? Why not force kids to sing it as well.

One last question. What about the natives? Seems to me they might have a right to be offended by O Canada and a right to consider themselves not Canadian.

I've already stated my opinion on people that don't want to take part. Stand in the hallway while it's being sung. I don't believe anyone is forced to sing the anthem. Heaven forbid they might actually hear a part of it. What happens to these children when they accidentally hear a rap song that talks about fucking some bitches? As for a pledge of allegiance? Damn straight, if you can't pledge your allegiance to Canada then get out.

Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the quote protocols. They are really easy and it makes posts so much easier to read.

Lets make it a choice then. Split classrooms into areas where anthems are sung and not sung. Let the kids go where they want. Might work for prayer too.

Choosing to act patriotically would be far greater at installing patriotism then simply forcing everybody to listen to the national anthem.

Why once a day? Because that's all that I think is needed.
That's a perfectly fine routine. Like once a hockey game.

And I'd love it if the kids had to sing it.

$1:
One last question. What about the natives? Seems to me they might have a right to be offended by O Canada and a right to consider themselves not Canadian.

They can go ahead and sit down.

But O Canada shouldn't be turned off to accommodate that one damn kid.

You think once a day is enough. I think once a week during assembly is also enough.

You see how it can be debated can't you?

Now you want kids to be forced to sing. Should we force them to carry around a picture of our current PM also, kim jong ill style?

Forcing it like that makes it offensive. People choose to be patriotic. You can't force them to be patriotic, just act like it.

I once had a religious nut snap at me that even if you couldn't force people to believe you could force them to act it and it was just as good.

lily lily:
If people insist on using the word "banned" they can't object to the use of "forced".
Because you say so? Nice try. There is nothing in any story about a child forced to sing the anthem.
