Whats even more odd about this is that in Finaland you must speak Finnsih to have a job by law. There are a few exceptions but over all if you dont speak Finnish you cant work there. Not true. The law conserns only officials in authorities which are bilingual by law. By law a swedish speaker can as...

There is no mandatory second language requirement in Alberta, although many schools offer French immersion or even other languages (Arabic, Mandarin, Ukrainian, etc). What is immersion in practise? Do you mean that the teaching is in French and it starts in very young age - maybe even in preschool ...

French language classes in Calgary public schools sucked. It was only mandatory for 6th grade after which it was an option. My 6th grade teacher stopped teaching halfway through the year because she couldn't keep up with the lessons she was teaching. So unless you go to a French immersion school or...

In highschool you had to have at least 2 language credits to graduate and one of them HAD to be French. Which basically meant you only had to take it for one year in high school. How much or long time is one credit? One credit in high schools in Finland is 40 hours. There are 5 credits mandatory Sw...

I don't know anything about Finland's language policy but if bilingualism is a requirement for government employment the schools should be teaching it. - Teaching it and forcing it are two different things! - We can't choose in Finland. Swedish is mandatory subject from grade 7 to the universities,...

QBC QBC: Why yes, french is a mandatory subject in Canada, but probably not for the same reasons as Swedish is mandatory in your country.
Are you absolutely sure the French is mandatory subject in every province?
If it so, how many years you have to learn French? |

One very basic thing is unclear to me. Is the French language compulsory subject in all provinces in all schools in Canada, or is it just on offer for pupils in schools? Swedish language is the second official language in Finland and it's compulsory subject in all schools in the whole Finland. The S...
