"Now I ask you. What does it mean to be a Canadian?" To be able to look around this great place, and have it stir a reverence within oneself that transcends both one's selfish fixations and the petty events of the day. Belligerent patriotism degrades it, definition perverts it (Mulroney vs...

Thanks for posting this, it's the exact info requested. <p> Now, for useful activism on this, especially in the current Canadian climate, the substance of the GM/non-GM debate needs to be sidelined, because it is secondary. Not to mention informed public concern is usually over environment, in...

OK, so here's an idea: Somebody on the inside, please--exactly who in the Canadian government is Monsanto's global terminator seed lackey? I don't mean what department, I mean *WHO*? The first thing you think when you hear "the Canadian government" is going around selling this to other cou...

Sent the embassy an email. Will post the response here if I get one.

McKenna should not be villified for this, he did a pretty good job here. Reducing perceived or actual enmity at the border is a crucial function of his position.

Some clippings/questions: "Although both Mexico and Canada attracted considerable new U.S. investment (since NAFTA gave them privileged access to the U.S. market), the percentage of U.S.-owned companies in each country did not increase." In The Vanishing Country, Mel Hurtig claims the exac...

A ranking of 30 implies there are 29 other examples to learn from. Does Canada actively collaborate with any of these other nations to share health care strategies, especially the ones with similar public systems?

Read some of the less reasonable anti-american stuff posted on this site sometime. And then go read what they're writing about "soviet canuckistan" in some of the right-wing blogs coming from both sides of the border. And no, I'm not generalizing about *all* the posts on this site (in fact...

Rule of law between our nations is a good idea, but there's a reason the EU has it and we don't. And after "deep integration", I bet we still won't. "When the wagons circle, do Canadians want to be on the outside looking in or the other way around? To ask the question is to answer it....

In the U.S. George W. was voted in (again) in one of the higher voter turnouts in recent history. A counter to the robo-candidate tactic is what is needed. Martin and crew have a predetermined, well-rehearsed answer to just about every criticism, no doubt based on a carefully researched and restrict...
