Wada Wada:
Right on! I bought a bunch of 3dMax books years ago from a bud who went to McKenzie College and soon dropped out. Glad to see your still envolved in the graphic arts.
Sorta... they tell you one thing about the industry here in the Maritimes when it's totally the opposite.
I originally wanted to get into Web Design, Video Editing, Flash Animation/3D Animation, Video Games, etc. (I multi-task

) but due to so little of that work around here, I went into photography / photo editing for a local photography studio.... lots of work and lots of BS, very little pay. Photoshop played a big role in this, and I also worked on the web site for the company among a few other things at the time.
I eventually got into the sign industry working in Illustrator/Photoshop and doing a lot around Nova Scotia. I worked on the Super Banners for the Empire IMAX Theatre here in Halifax for Batman Begins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James Camron's Aliens of the Deep......
Now I'm into a bigger sign company then before, doing work for Sobeys, Credit Union, Subway, Pharmasave, PharmaChoice, Wendy's, Dalhousie University, Lockheed Martin, IMP Group, Canjet, TD Bank, etc etc.... blah blah blah... bunch of no name companies you guys probably never heard of
Oh and I had a short stint at The Coast Magazine.
Now I could have done what everybody else suggested, which was to move out west where all the design jobs and good pay are, but I figured if I did that, then I'd just be another person who gave up on where I grew up and headed off to improve another province.
So long as I stayed here I was at least still contributing back to the community I grew up in.... it's hard sometimes, but imo, necessary in regards to my principles.
I figured that if I'm going to head out west, why stop there? I might as well go all out if that's the case. I hoped that eventually over time things would start to pick up around here, more businesses propped up around here, and they are. I'm not saying I was any big factor in all of this.... I just felt something wrong about living here, learning here and then taking off to help some other country or province.
Then again, in the next year or so, I'll be doing that anyways, because I'll be heading to live in Australia with the soon-to-be misses.
But that's enough about me and my pimp out.
