NB. 1 The Labour Force level is the “the ‘participation’ in the work force by adults”.

NB. 2. The standard of 72% of the adult population in the work force is the base. As the number of people working goes higher this may be conservative. In practice it should be tested, experimented with.

NB. 3 I did not correct for the age profile of Quebec cities as it is not distorted as much as the West.

NB. 4 The Gatineau has a younger population profile than the rest of Quebec. However it is doing much better than the rest of the province.

***********************_Best Cities_Standard(NB 5)_***********************
Calgary_______3.0______________(74.9)__________70.8_________same___Feb. 2008

Barrie________6.1_______________76.2)____________73.4________same__2006

NB 5. The best cities all have rather a younger population. I subtracted the people 65 or older relative to the Canadian average. As retirement age is 62 – 63 this may not be enough.

Here’s an anecdote on the conditions in the labour market in Grande Prairie as of this week. It's from a fairly articulate woman at Rabble.

“Hi bruce. Our closest city is Grande Prairie, and what I hear is that employers can't find staff unless they start over $13/hour. Tims does advertise 15 bucks for night shift, Superstore is advertising 16 bucks for night work. We were at a job fair yesterday with my son, and there wasn't any participating businesses offering less than 14/hr.”
“The cost of living here is pretty high - those wages are great for a kid living at home but not so much for someone who has to support themselves.”
“No end to the help wanted ads tho.”

Quebec is mostly a Catholic province, not a Protestant one, thus Quebecers are not obsessed by work to the same extent than the ROC (rest of Canada) can be.

You assume that "work ethic" fits here because you live in a Protestant culture.

Funny, outside of quebec , quebecers have a reputation of being hard workers.
