Not my province so I know my opinion doesn't mean squat on this however... my $0.02...

Although I get that the arena will be used for events other than NHL hockey I wouldn't like the idea of public funds being used at a time where the money could be much better spent on infrastructure and housing improvements that benefit all citizens, since it's their money anyway.

Freaking pro sports rake in lots of $ from the sponsors that post their logo all over everything that moves and doesn't move. Not to mention the gambling revenue, ridiculous ticket prices and revenue from over-priced merchandise and concessions.

Burn the heretic! Burn them!

Kidding. And it's not like the infrastructure improvements outside and around the arena will only affect the arena . . . ;)

$1:
"I look at the Americans. I look at Ron DeSantis in Florida and Kristi Noem in South Dakota," said Smith. "They've been able to create little bastions of freedom, and we can create a little bastion of freedom in Alberta as well."

/\ That topic has come up many times already over the years. Nothing new.

Alberta has a provincial election coming up next month and depending which party gets majority we shall see if this option is one that they want to explore. There is much to consider and, of course, they will have to allow the citizens of Alberta to vote on that by referendum.

As with Quebec attempting this twice and failing to get a majority to agree I hope not to see this happening.

The sentiment for separation is not even on the radar for most Albertans. Outside of a fringe political party, no one is talking about it.

And, as usual, anything involving Peterson can be ignored.

Tickets spike more than 800% in Edmonton's fare evasion crackdown

Yes, let's give the people without homes and money fines for wanting to keep warm in winter. That will solve the violence on the transit system.

As wildfire threat grows, UCP cuts to remote rappel team are a risky gamble

Now we shall reap the whirlwind.

rickc rickc:

Separation solves NOTHING - Alberta would still be landlocked (unless it can convince BC to come along) and still lack the ability to get its resources in bulk to overseas markets.

What a fringe of conservatives in southern Alberta actually want is for Alberta to join the US, but there are far too many people in Edmonton and Calgary who have no interest in that ever happening. The reality is that most Canadians support some level of gun control and vehemently oppose privatized healthcare like the US has. Plus, any referendum would also need support from First Nations, as Albertans cannot vote on whether or not their land can separate from Canada, only First Nations can.

A US invasion is more likely than separation/joining the US for the foreseeable future, and that is not going to happen anytime soon.

Calgary preacher guilty of mischief for urging truckers to continue Coutts border protest

Guess Danielle couldn't come through with the pardon.

The problem is that no one is actually watching the video. The video is titled the Alberta Roundup. It had numerous stories about Alberta, including stories about Danielle Smith and the largest story was Pierre Poilievre speaking about crime and bail. The part about Peterson was a small part of the clip. The thumbnail attached to this video was not the thumbnail of the video that I posted even though the video is the same. Someone pulled the old bait and switch on the thumbnail probably thinking that Peterson's shock value would generate higher ratings. Unfortunately it would appear to be having the opposite effect here. That is a shame because it was a good piece.
