NOooo...it's about idiots with guns. AND perhaps about limiting access of said idiots to guns. By the way, armadillos are a major pest AND a carrier of leprosy. So when you head to Texas for your annual armadillo hunt, forgo this years BBQ.

But wait...

If these things are, as you say, leprosy ridden, pests why would you be an idiot for wanting to exterminate them? If you had one rooting around in your backyard (at property so secluded the guy had to be airlifted to hospital according to the story) and were a licensed gun owner, why wouldn't you shoot it?

The idea bullets will ricochet of them directly backwards into your face is just silly. I don't believe it.

I imagine there have been many urban legends about shooting armadillos though and it wouldn't surprise me if they'd been around for many years.

This is a 2 year old story told by a county sheriff about an anonymous victim.

??? Who said not to shoot them. Everyone I have known from Texas considers them vermin. But then you never spend much time considering what people say, just some "agenda" you seem to have. I said the Article seems to be about idiots with guns, not armadillos. Bullets ricochet off things, including given the right conditions water. Coming right back at you is unusual, but possible, especially on a double.

The guy was an idiot because of how he handled his firearm, not for killing an armadillo.

Bullets ricochet off things,

Yes. They do.

$1:
including given the right conditions water.

We call it skipping.

$1:
Coming right back at you is unusual,

Never happens.

$1:
but possible,

Poppycock.

$1:
especially on a double.

Not to mention the double-double and you can roll up the rim.

$1:
The guy was an idiot because of how he handled his firearm, not for killing an armadillo.

See I missed that part. The part about safe armadillo shooting practises. What they describe in the article sounded reasonable to me.

They only say he shot it 3 times with a .38.

Or do you mean because it was 3 AM?

But remember...

"The stars at night - are big and bright

Deep in the heart of Texas."

Speaking of urban legends though, I heard one about a guy who shot a skunk that was going through his trash late at night. The way the story goes, "He never did that again."

The guy, I mean. Although the skunk didn't either. He died. :D

I think the dude somehow accidentally shot himself and made up the armadillo part to cover up his careless mistake. Alcohol may or may not have been involved.
