sort of misleading..Venice has been sinking due to subsidence for centuries..

https://www.livescience.com/19195-venic ... lowly.html

"Bock and his colleagues calculate that the city and surrounding land could sink by about 80 mm (3.2 inches) relative to the sea in the next 20 years if the current rate holds steady."

You are right. "Live Science" is very misleading. Does this look like 80mm to you?

The tide was 6 feet over normal. FEET.

It's on the end of your leg, between the ankle and toes.

Over 20 years, or just this week? Venice is seeing more frequent events like this, increasing over the last couple decades.

The irony is that satellite measurements have been showing Venice is sinking, but due in part to the extra mass of the water above it due to rising seas.

$1:
That is the conclusion of a review article published by a team of scientists who recently assembled in New Orleans, La., and in Venice, Italy, to examine the problem. Extraction of groundwater or fossil fuels, and sometimes simply generations of farming, are causing large metropolitan areas in coastal zones around the world to subside surprisingly quickly—making the relative rise of adjacent seas an even greater potential hazard.

Oh do cut the crap. Or show me 6 foot rising sea levels, or tell me how global warming affects the moon.

Didn't take a lot of reading to discover a few things.

This is the second highest tide we know about in the area. The first was back in the 70s. You know? Back when we were worried about global cooling.

The high point of this second highest tide may have been 6 foot but:

$1:
Saint Mark’s Square was submerged by more than one meter of water, while the adjacent Saint Mark’s Basilica was flooded for the sixth time in 1,200 years – but the fourth in the last 20.

Venice is in the centre of about 100 little islands connected by canals in a bay. It's subject to flooding.

$1:
In its nine-century history, the opulent St. Mark’s Basilica has flooded six times — twice in the past two years.

The flooding this time was accompanied by high winds and torrential downpours.

What I learned in high school science is tides are affected by the moon.

No. It's not. It's not correct either. Or even that bright.

But go ahead, prove me wrong. Show me how global warming is responsible for the recent 2nd highest tide event in the bay off the Venice island group - or the wind or the torrential downpour that flooded Venice last week.

Except we both know you can't. Don't we?

In fact, if you tried, now that would be funny.

No it isn't. 80mm comes to about your medial malleolus. That's up to approx mid shin. Ball park it at 20-30cm, depending on the height of the person in the picture.

Like I've said before, not me, but people with more knowledge of the subject think it's possible and my meagre science back ground tells me to listen to those with more of that knowledge than I have. Are you one of the science wizards?? I'm not.

And , just as an aside, one of the general rules I learned was "don't trust someone who gets a reward for telling us stuff." Somehow I can't get rid of the feeling you are one of the paid shrills here. Like the guys who insisted that LD50 was the one and only measure of a pesticide's safety. Nope!

The thing is were listening to different people.

No wait...that's not quite true.

I listen to the one's you listen to but I don't limit myself to them. I'll listen to both sides of an argument.

Although I gotta admit I did miss something. Who are these "more knowledgeable people" you know of who are telling you global warming is affecting the moon? Other than Doc, I mean. Gotta link?

As to your paranoid delusional fear of me...Meophobia? Thanks for the chuckles. [B-o] Now that was funny.
