The US right now is a net exporter. They import very little, which is why our oil is selling so cheap. We need tidewater and Asian markets.

And like 'Pegger said, synthetic crude would be the best bet to satisfy the uneasiness that BCers have about the environment.

Yep, just like First Nations and cities like Edmonton could just as easily vote to stay in Canada, making Alberta look like a piece of Swiss cheese.

Again, remember Quebec in 1995 and people saying that it could be partitioned if some parts of it wanted to stay part of Canada? Remember how much support there was for that in the ROC?

Why would we get off any easier?

I may be naive, but I believe that if areas of Alberta voted to stay in Canada, they would accept us, mostly because in many people's eyes, they'd keeping Loyalists and jettisoning the rest (separatists).

It won't be cancelled now given that Trudeau has been fed a giant dose of humility. Well that and the fact that if what some of the media are claiming, he's already been in touch with the Conservatives about working together on things they have in common, one of which will be getting Canadian oil to foreign markets that don't start with the letter A.
