Take cropleek and garlic, of both equal quantities, pound them well together… take wine and bullocks gall, mix with the leek… let it stand nine days in the brass vessel…
So goes a thousand-year-old Anglo Saxon recipe to vanquish a stye, an infected eyelash follicle.
haha just posted that article on my FB page... who says having studied Old English is a waste?

heheh
Did you ever get the answer you were looking for out of the Norse/Saxon thread by the way?
Not really. The Danes of Ragnar Lothbrok era and the Anglo Saxons all came from the same small area. At most the two or three centuries separating the end of the Angle, Saxon and Jute invasions and the arrivals of the Danes, should have left them speaking a mutually intelligible language. I'd have thought that they would be just as close as Occitan and Catalan, rather than Spanish and Portuguese......funny thing is Spaniards are able to understand the Portuguese easier than the other way round.
