Scape Scape:
Extreme? I guess. Not too sure really. I mean they kinda have a point that he skated all the way to the other goalie who wasn't even the lead in, he was the replacement goalie that was put in place after the 1st one let 7 pucks get past him. If anything you would think it was him who would want the fight and not Roy so I don't know the background but clearly the two teams have a history. To me it sounds that it's just a kid (he is 19) that got caught up in the moment. So yeah, fights happen in hockey but usually for a reason like a rivalry, this is simple hooliganism. Probably not a good thing to let get out of hand in the long run but it does pack the stands.

Well Scape,

Quebec City and Chicoutimi has been quite a rivalry. (At least, since Patrick Roy has been coach). They raise up their level of play everytime they meet in the post season series. It's actually exciting. And please do not forget that the Remparts won it all '05-'06 season. :D

Oh goodness, the Quebec media has played this over and over. Now the politicians are even getting involved in all of this. I say that it's up to the league to determine their own rules. These politicians should step aside. That's only my opinion.

As for packing the stands, it sure does. After all, the sports journalists always look for a way to get more ratings. Well, they sure have it now. But instead of reporting on actual matters, they have turned this into a real joke. It's hockey and there was a fight... C'mon !!! If people don't like it, then it would be best to go watch figure skating instead. This is exciting, and it creates some hype about the games.

I know the media went nuts but I think it had everything to do with the name and not the fight. They know that his name would turn heads, a regular hockey fight would not. That is another form of hooliganism to be sure but you don't end up with a broken neck afterwards. I think that old skool hockey is fine but not to the point that it has fighting as the main draw. Boxing with skates isn't a sport yet.

I just think the whole thing is a bunch of crap. You can't ban fighting in hockey and IMO if incidents like this or the Bertuzzi one happen, they should be dealt with within the league by handing out suspensions, etc. and not include the judicial system.

Fights happen, and will continue to happen, and they are much safer than the sticks they play with, the blades on which they skate, and the flying discs if there are no full face shields worn. The crowd loves a fight, just listen to them at any game.

It's also funny that this Quebecor wants to get rid of fighting in the leagues considering they have a whole league there devoted to it. Even made a movie about it!

newfette..Ruez... When I was a goalie (still am one)on Junior teams I used to hit players (solid body checks behind the net), protect my crease and I used to SCRAP all the time. Goalies are hockey players we have to be better skaters and more agile then most other skaters on the ice.

Bottom line what Roy's kid Johnathan did wasn't a hockey fight.. been in enough of them to know. He attacked an unwilling participant ( the other guy didn't want to fight for whatever reason) then afterwards he shows off. The kid has no respect for the game it's tradition, the fans or other players. Sad thing is that Patrick Roy who I had a lot of respect for as a goalie was involved. Giving his kid the wave to go.

Sickening. Mr. Roy I now hope that Martin Brodeur (class act) now removes all of your NHL records. so that way you'll fall into the category of second best cause your ego won't allow for that.
