Do any of you wise members here have any tips for removing wallpaper borders? I've heard that using an iron with steam works pretty good... Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

go to a paint store and buy some wallpaper remover. Maybe $3 (which is enough for 10l of water - I have some here that I don't have a use for, feel free to drop by to grab it). Don't bother buying those 'paper tiger' thingys that scratch up the wallpaper. Add the wallpaper remover to some hot water, sponge it on, wait a few minutes for it to soak in, use a paint scraper dealy and it'll come off in huge satisfying strips. Don't do too huge an area at once, it stops being fun when the stuff dries before you get to it. Wash the wall when you're done to get rid of the wallpaper paste and the remover so that you can do whatever it is that you want to do to the wall.

Sponge and warm water should do the trick.... just get the paper good and soaked, and it should come off.

I tried the heat gun before... didn't really work.

Nope. Sounds like effort. And a huge pain in the ass. Hot water soaking into the wallpaper. Use the iron to open your neighbour's mail.

im experienced with this. the kettle steam trick gets annoying after a while.

We did our house and my mother in law's using fabric softener(UNDILUTED works best, but you can do arf 'n' arf). Score the surface of the paper, especially if it's vinyl, then saturate the wallpaper and it comes off like a charm. Use the cheapest you can find, as they all seem to work equally well and it leaves the room smelling nice.

This is what we did only we did dilute and worked great. Rinse well though or your paint won't stick.

fire works good for any demo project... TSP is a wall cleaning product, for getting walls ready for painting, you can find it (powder) in a milk like container in the paint section. Dilute half cup in an ice cream pail with hot-warm water.

You just paint this Zinsser product right over the wallpaper and then paint over that? Which product?

i know you can hire steam strippers for wallpaper. it has a plate with holes in and a boiler with a long insulated hose. really quick and safe too.
