$1:
Doctors treating the man who stabbed and beheaded a passenger aboard a Greyhound bus are asking that he be allowed short periods of supervised outdoor time on the grounds of the Manitoba mental-health facility where he's being held.

He can spend the rest of his days looking at the walls of his cell/hospital room. He's always going to be a danger.

The review board members heard that Li continues to be medicated with anti-psychotic drugs. He is also now being treated with antidepressants.

Li's risk of suicide has been downgraded to low, the members heard, and Dr. Steven Kremer, Li's psychiatrist, suggested this might have something to do with him taking the antidepressant medication.

Behaviour unpredictable: doctor

"We can not predict an individual's future behaviour with 100 per cent certainty," he said.

Sounds like the medicos were on the right track to 'making sure this animal never hurts another human being! WTF happened??? Put him back in his cage, discontinue the meds, and give him another knife to play with!

What the doctors are proposing sounds reasonable to me. Regualr prisoners get supervised time outside, so should he, if he can handle it. The only worry is that 6 months down the road they say he's doing so well outside he should be able to leave the ground for periods of time. I think he should spend at least as much time locked up as somebody found guilty of 2nd degree murder - 10 years.

You're not suggesting someone tries to punish him for what he did, are you ?

That would be against his rights as a not guilty person.

It's not about punishment - doesn't work anyway. I think we should get rid of the not guilty by reason of insanity verdict, and change it to less guilty broi or guilty but sentenced to a forensic institution with maybe a bit easier to get parole. What is certain in my mind is that a person found ngbroi should get the same lifetime supervision as any other murderer - they should never be allowed off the radar. There is no permanent cure for severe mental disorders that I'm aware of - just meds that can give relief from the symptoms - it's too easy/likely for these people to stop taking those meds unless they are supervised.
