For all of you out there who wre looking for a great veiw of Americans and the way they are you really must go see this movie. Micheal Moore directed it and did a wonderful job of touring America and interviewing people on gun control and other issues. They make Americans look really bad.
We are mentioned in a few places and we don't look too bad, but we have some room for improvement too.
Anyways check it out. You'll love it. :)

No, it is not. It is all about gun use and gun laws in America. Littleton is the basis for his research.
It is all about different gun groups, gun statistics and other issues in America. It really explains a lot about why they have they problems that they do, and we really don't, even though we are neighbours. This is not to say that we are problem free, but there is a big difference in our murders by guns and theirs. Ours is something like 160 per year and theirs is 11,000 murders by guns per year. All of this information is available in the movie along with a lot of other very interesrting facts. For example, in the 1980s Americans trained milititants from foriegn countries to help them in the cold war against Russia. One of the militants that they trained was Osama Bin Laden. They actually had a hand in his training!!
I promise you, see this movie. You will be glued to your seat!! And you will be amazed at all of the facts and information you will receive.
Let me know what you think of it.

Bowling for Columbine ' title refers to the boys going bowling before setting off to Columbine high school for the shooting massacre . These boys where definitely troubled , and from what I understand , rather isolated from the majority of students . When I was in high school ( 1983 - 1987 ) , there were many different groups , but the worst violence was the occasional fist fight after school . No guns , and only a few reports of pocket knives , and as for me ? - I was Ferris Bueller ! - meaning , I got along with everyone . Unfortunately , education took a back seat to beer , girls , rock n' roll , and leafy greens . Anyway , I don't know when , or how exactly this country got so crazy , and how the priorities became so screwed up . As i have warned all of you before , in various posts ( and in subtle ways ) , protect the Canadian way of life at all costs by severly minimizing Americanization . Grab CRAY - TEE - YAN by the short hairs and say " Don't sell out our country you sleepy old bastard ! " . Every time I scan a cross section of canadian news , I see a report of an incident that's just like something that happens in the states . Recently in Edmonton , somebody got gunned down in the street . Granted , stuff like this is the exception rather than the rule , but it was that way in the u.s. at one time , now it's wide spread . And it isn't just shootings and other violent acts like road rage - it's the overall attitude of the population , not to mention widespread ignorance . Watch some of George Carlin's comedy concerts from the past several years and you'll see what I mean . I haven't seen Bowling for Columbine because Tennessee is a gun -loving , VERY republican state , so I'll have to wait until it's available for rental . Well , babbeebabebebaba - that's all folks !

Don't you think that the amount of gun related deaths in America and Canada is directly related to the populations of the 2 countries. Take Toronto for example. on average they have about 50 gun related murders every year. Thats almost one third of the national statistic.

Refering to that incident in Edmonton, we have a small problem with gangs here, but they only mess with each other. If yur a law abiding citizen and are not out looking to score drugs , then you wont have any contact with these types. But yesw things have changed in recent years. At one time in my day if you had a problem with some one at the bar you went out side, punched it out till one droppped, then you BOTH went back in and had a beer together. Not any more. I worked ion the bars in Montreal and it was starting to be a nasty line of work. Too many folks that believe tha shit they see on tv

I agree RH, and as a side note to my previous post, 90% of the gun related murders in TO are gang related.

Well then , since gang violence sometimes leads to the harming of innocents , ship your gang members down here where they will be in good company . If they refuse , have the RCMP bust a cap in their arses ! And to reduce the potential for creating future violent , unsocialized peckerwoods - STOP WATCHING SO MUCH AMERICAN T.V. . Instead ; Read more ! go canoeing ! go to the gym ! chase girls ! take up squirrel watching ! wrestle grizzly bears ! do something fun , and non violent !

Sorry guys, I should have been clearer on my origional information. Those statistics were on a per capita base, I do not, however, remember the capita amount. Sorry to have caused any confusion.
But, really before you get in to too much of a debate about all of this, you should go see the movie and then I'll join you in the debate. :)
I had the opportunity to see it at a local theatre that plays documentaries and foreign films, so check out those theatres first. I do not believe that it is on DVD or video yet, but I did find it on Kazaa.
Watch it, then we'll talk
:)

I plan on seeing the movie when it comes out on video , although that won't be for several months according to my local blockbuster . In the mean time , for those who want an angle on some of the themes related to Bowling for Columbine , I would suggest michael Moore's book - Stupid white men , and even if only half of it is true, then the u.s. is in serious decline . I'd also suggest - The best democracy that money can buy , written by Greg Palast . Find and read anything you can by John Pilger online . Any of these sources have information ( and warnings ) applicable to Canada , as well as the u.s. . Toodle - loo
