Why is that people here have nothing but scorn for Quebec separatism, yet feel that advocating Alberta separation is just fine?
Frankly, I find it the height of hypocrisy and totally unacceptable. For members from Alberta to constantly bash the Bloc and members from Quebec who want their province to separate to turn right around and advocate their own province separate is outright stupid.
I feel that certain members (they know who they are) should either stand up and be men/women and apologize to the rest of us. It's either that or accept the same type of scorn they heap on Quebec separatists. I would never suggest banning them, simply because freedom of speech is to precious.
I, however, have decided that from this moment on, I will no longer respond to anyone who posts such separatist drivel, no matter what province they are from. Canada is far more important than Calgary, Montreal, Alberta or Quebec.
As such, I will be putting several members who this week suggested Alberta should separate this week on ignore and will not respond to anything they post, unless they are willing to repudate such repugnant statments (a public apology here on CKA). In the spirit of fairness and equality, I will also do so for the resident Quebec separatists. This isn't personal, but I am Canadian first and foremost and I have ZERO time for anyone other Canadians who don't feel the same.
I invite everyone else to do the same.

** edited for spelling ** Agreed. Not trying to put you on the spot but would you have any opinions on making the Quebec separatist political party illegal?

** edited for spelling ** Nice point! Anytime hypocrites are called to task is fantastic! It'll be interesting to see who can actually acknowledge it.

PluggyRug PluggyRug: Agreed.
Not trying to put you on the spot but would you have any opinions on making the Quebec separatist political party illegal? Actually, I wouldn't want it illegal. Like I said, freedom of speech is important, besides if they can't use votes to get their point across, then they go back to the FLQ and use letter bombs and kidnappings like they did in the 1960s/70s. No, I think a political party is a great way to marginalize malcontents. I read in a book once something I really agree with. $1: In Central America, if someone doesn't like the way the government runs, they round up 1000 friends, 100 guns and stage a coup. This results in deaths, damage to the economy, and a lot of trouble.
In the US/Canada, if you are fed up with the way the government runs, you run for office. You have to spend your at least a little of your own money and a campaign is draining, both physically and psychologically. The worst thing that happens is that the malcontent gets elected. Then he/she gets to see how difficult it is to run the government. Even then, engineers make sure the sewers work and bureaucrats make sure the government continues to operate.
And who knows, maybe the malcontent actually gets something done while in office. If nothing else, a malcontent is dealt with, with no disruption to the country or the economy.

** edited for spelling ** I find it interesting that you would make this post only after Conservatives hinted at separatism this week. Why not earlier ?you seemed to have no problem debating Quebec separatists in the past. your partisanship takes the shine off your post.

I bash all Separatism in Canada, which would be Alberta and Quebec. I bash Quebec a lot more because of have annoying they make themselves regarding it.
However, unti'll today. I had no idea Alberta wanted to separate?
What the hell is going on here? Is everybody going idiotic lately? Don't they realize that separation is really stupid. I mean, either they would have to merge with another country or there fucked. They cannot remain a individual because it's stupid.
I swear, these kids of politicians need to get there heads straight before they start messing with Canada, and hurting it. I swear, separatists will be the bloody end of Canada. We should make it illegal.

Who advocates Alberta seperatism? There may be one or two here but most of us Albertans that have been to their site's know how totally fringe and whacked they are, wanting to join the USA is the first point I dont agree with as I'm sure most other Albertan's dont.
So dont lump us Albertans that want a fair shake in Ottawa with the Alberta seperatists. You will fail big time.
