I too sometimes wonder why is there only one Canadian team in the NBA, but you know, i recently checked out the Canadian man's basketball team and it seams that there is only one player who playes in the NBA. It's Joel Anthony and he doesn't even play for the Raptors. He plays for the Miami Heat and he's very weak as a player. That's why we don't have more than one team in the NBA. And the only Canadian in the Raptors team is the coach Jay Triano. And I noticed that someone said that it's the National Basketball Association meaning it's only American and that we are lucky to have at least one team there. But the NHL too is "National" and yet there's a total of 30 teams and 6 of them are Canadian and are the best. Think about that.

Nice necro noob. I know it's going to get me in trouble, but I have to say it(because I'm naughty) anyways. The criminal element in our society prefers Bingo, rather than B-ball

Because Canada is "winter country" and it is not interesting for Canadians to play "american game" So winter games are more popular.

Vancouver could have worked. It's a fine NBA city, certainly more viable than some places that currently have teams (including Memphis, where the Grizzlies currently reside).
It was managed poorly. The team only had one GM, Stu Jackson, who made some absolutely atrocious personnel decisions. And don't get me started on the ownership that was in place at the time. Commish David Stern has stated in numerous places that what happened in Vancouver is one of his greatest regrets. He knows it could have flourished. Just because some of you guys don't care for basketball doesn't mean all of Canada feels that way, especially if we're talking about young people.
