A court in China has sentenced a Canadian citizen to death for producing and trafficking methamphetamine.

Fan Wei is the second Canadian to be sentenced to death this year. Ten others, including five foreigners, were also sentenced on Tuesday.

I'm good with this. Thank you, China.

Most of us are. Although we don't like the death penalty here, if you break laws somewhere else, you should be subject to them.

Yeah for sure. An organized crime gang in China calling itself a govt and admitting to being complicit in the illegal flow of fentanyl into Canada sure has the moral high ground to execute alleged drug dealers/smugglers.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. China is not a place to commit crime. They kill you in China. Norway is where you commit crime. They baby you in Norway.

They're exporting it to Canada and the US. That's legal in China.

Selling it in China will get you executed.

AFAIK fentanyl is already a controlled substance in China were talking about a failure of enforcement. In this regard, the Chinese have just made more promises:

China already treats more than two dozen variants of fentanyl and its precursors as controlled substances, thus strictly regulating their production and distribution, but it has banned those variants only after reviewing them case by case, a process that can be lengthy. And because so many more variants exist, and new ones are constantly being created, banning them as a broadly defined class could be far more effective.

On the current case, going back and giving a Canadian a death sentence looks like an Iranian-style tactic of persecuting our citizens for purely political ends.
