Can someone enlighten me on something?

According to trade stats, we import $50+ billion worth of goods from China and export only $20 billion to them - so why can't we retaliate and hurt China as much, if not more, then they are hurting us in this trade dispute?

Just shut them out of everything. Pull a Trump and sanction companies that do business with them.

Because we aren't as petty as them. They chide us for not adhering to international law, while arbitrarily detaining our citizens. The say Huawei is not controlled by the Chinese Government, yet the Chinese government is going to great lengths to punish Canada over our international legal obligation of extradition on behalf of Huawei.

When we say something, we do that thing. When we sign trade deals, politics doesn't factor into whether or not we abide by that deal.

Sure, the numbers say it would hurt China more, but if you do the math Per capita or Per GNP, it says something completely different.

    Because FUCK TRUMP!!!

That's why. Your leaders would prefer to take it up the ass from China rather than admit that Trump is right that China is a predatory nation and not a trading partner.

We knew that, long before Trump.

Then why did it take Trump to lead the way on standing up to China?

Why ask me? I'm just a computer nerd.

The US is the largest trading partner of China. We are 1/100th the population. Small potatoes. But the market is too large to ignore. Even if they steal things like our ice wine, or honey.

And the problems Canada has been having, in my mind, seem to have been instigated by Trump.

Because PM Socks is still trying to figure out why he can't find any boxed water for his family to drink.

    Priorities.

Sorry folks but all this kowtowing to China was started long ago by the Americans under the guise of "bringing China into the international community". So, the Americans and by extension their allies bent over backwards to give China what they wanted in the supposed belief that if they became a free market economy they'd stop their Comintern bullshit and quit trying to spread communism thought the world.

Unfortunately this was all smoke and mirrors because the truth was something completely different. The Americans couldn't have given a shit about containing the Chinese through trade and economic aide. Because what the Americans and once again the rest of the free world really wanted was new markets, cheap labour and cheap products and were willing to play ball with the thugs in the Chinese Gov't to get it.

So, is it any wonder that the Chinese Communist Gov't is acting the way it does. We've caved to pretty much every demand they've made for 50 years just so we can get can benefit from their style of gov't? A style that doesn't have silly little things like, labour disputes, workers compensation, work safe, a decent wage and doesn't have any real concerns about the real quality of the product they produce unless it benefits their gov't.

Crap like this should come as no surprise because as nations it's we who've become addicted to Chinese markets and products, not the other way around. So, as addicts we'll do anything we can to keep our dealer happy even if that includes turning a blind eye to his human right abuses and flagrant attempts to infiltrate and damage our way of life.

But, if people and gov'ts want to keep the status quo all they have to do is keep chanting, "China is a third world country and shouldn't be held to the same standard as the west".

I avoid Chinese made products when possible. But it's not always possible.

What's really odd is that had history played out different we might have gotten what we wanted without having to sell our souls to the Chinese gov't. If the author Jung Chang is to be believed when the Chinese Communist Party was formed some of the leaders initially wanted a free market economy with a communist gov't. They were unfortunately derailed by a manipulating, despotic teacher from some backwater who went on to become the worlds worst mass murderer.

Don't shop at Walmart or at Dollar Stores... that eliminates 90% of the Chinese crap you buy.
