Piss me off. The board software attacked me and was showing nothing but scrambled letters on the first try. So I posted again.

Anyway...poor Kobe and the Bryant family. This is big news as sports obituaries go.

Just unbelievable. I think the global reaction is simply: No fucking way. This cant be possible.

RIP to one of the GOAT of the game.

A terrible thing. It's essentially professional basketball's Bill Barilko moment.

EDIT: unconfirmed report that one of his daughters, age 13, was also killed in the crash.

TMZ and the Boston Herald are among the media reporting Kobe's daughter was among the dead:

NBA star Kobe Bryants daughter Gianna Bryant died with her dad in the tragic helicopter crash in Calabasas, according to TMZ Sports. Gianna was a teenage basketball player who aspired to be in the WNBA. Her dad once said she most wanted to keep his legacy alive.

The entertainment site broke the news and reported the tragic detail that Kobes 13 year old daughter Gianna Maria Onore was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash. The site attributed the information about Kobes daughter to his reps.

    Where is the helicopter?

The crash site is small and the fire-men are not too quick to get out their fire extinguishers.

    R=EM

I'm still shocked from this. I'm not really a basketball fan, but I always thought Kobe was one hell of a good guy. Add to the fact his daughter died with him, and it's been making me tear up now for a few hours. So tragic on so many levels....

R.I.P. Legend, and R.I.P. innocent child.

The sports world lost a true great today.

    Show some goddamn respect!

I normally give you a free pass, but you are denigrating and making fun of a situation where a respected sports hero, his daughter, and seven others perished in an accident!

You want to post like a bonehead? FINE, BUT NOT IN THIS THREAD!!!!

I'm so sick and tired of the turds you call posts!!!

    ENOUGH!!!

Kobe was a generational talent. It upset me to hear that his daughter also was one of the 9 who died. Truly a tragedy.

Other people also complained/observed that the initial news coverage of the crash did not include any aerial coverage of the crash site and was instead focused on the reaction from fans and people who knew Kobe.

Once you realize that Kobe's helicopter crashed partly due to foggy and low visibility conditions then it makes sense that there were no news helicopters over the scene.

On a media related note someone noticed the vast coverage clusterfuck by the media:
