WINDSOR, Ont. - Some losses just don't feel like a loss. Especially on a night like this one at Windsor Arena, where the Spitfires paid tribute to captain Mickey Renaud before playing one of the Ontario Hockey League's best teams

Saw this during the highlights this am....

"One of the most emotional moments came after the video when Renaud's older brother Remy performed the ceremonial faceoff. Belleville's Keaton Turkiewicz came forward but no member of the Spitfires joined him as the puck was dropped. Windsor will not name a captain in Renaud's place this season.'

Lump in the throat time. Reminded me of the "missing man" formation...:-(

Kudos to the Belleville Bulls for wearin the Jersey and for showing such class

"Missing man" is a normal formation of players with one missing and in this case he was the center. So the wingers and defence were in position with a missing centre.

You'll see combat aircraft do this as well. Four aircraft will do a fly over with one of them peeling off leaving a gap in the formation and continuing on.

Missing man is a arial flyover tribute to a fallen pilot - two teams fly the V formation and when theyre directly over the ceremony the leader of the second element (the plane directly to the right of the lead plane) sharply pulls up and flies into the heavens while the rest of the formation flies out of sight.

I saw it once when I was living in BC.. a pilot from Vernon was killed up @ Cold Lake...... VERY dramatic :(

Edit: yeah what Regina said
