    The soldier who can't tell the difference between blanks and live ammunition for sure, but what about the officer/MCO who thought it would be cool to violate all firearm handling rules and "shoot" at people?

    true rain but The fault is way before that I think. I'm not positive about how they do things in France but here we have to check all magazines we fire. The difference between a blank and a real round is unmistakeable and if the mag was checked there's no doubt he would have missed it. If the mags were preloaded than whoever loaded them up would have a lot of explaining to do. As well as whoever supplied the ammo that was supposed to be blanks.

    The French army chief of staff, Gen Bruno Cuche, has resigned two days after a soldier injured 17 people at a military show.Gen Cuche offered his resignation on Tuesday to President Nicolas Sarkozy who accepted it.
