We are just continuing the cycle of violence. Kill as many of them as we can but they will keep coming and coming and coming. The US learned that the hard way in Vietnam. Look at the reports coming out about Afghanistan, very verifiable reports that despite all the years there we have made little difference. The govt we installed is corrupt beyond measure. The billions we spend to help over there trickles down as a fraction of the amount by the time it actually gets to the people who need it most.

The northern warlords and ex-mujahideen have re-established their sickening boy-toy parties in a big way. The Taliban apparently have control over large areas enough to collect taxes no matter how many successful militants we kill. Every civilian we kill further harms our reputation while enhancing theirs. The same does not work in reverse.

NATO itself is under strain as some nations shoulder the lions share of the combat and deride the others that don't.

Our tactics and approach isn't working in the least yet just as in Vietnam, battles with large body counts are touted as progress.

Talks about partitioning are getting louder as the idea of simply giving a section of Afghanistan to the Taliban will be enough of a bandaid solution for us to withdraw under a "mission acomplished" banner.

Madness in the name of pride.
