A Somali pirate chief on Monday threatened to target Americans in revenge for the rescue of a U.S. captain in a dramatic operation that saw military snipers kill his captors after a five-day standoff.
"RUEZ" said Revenge? What are they going to do capture some more ships?
"We will intensify our attacks even reaching very far away from Somalia waters, and next time we get American citizens... they expect no mercy from us."
Maybe we'll have to go back to convoys to prevent these pirates from kidnapping and/or killing more people.

But but, they wouldnt blow up a ship, after all, they are the ones crying about the environmental damage being caused already, they would just be adding to it.
Or is it they don't really give a shit about the environment ?
Seems to me we are going to spend a lot of money to protect shipping that shouldnt need it in this day and age, and of course we are going to pay for it at the checkout.
Time for the Somalis to grow up, I'm hoping for a Barbary type solution.
"tritium" said These pirates are lucky the personel on these ships aren't armed. They should be.
O.K. the shipmates are now armed, how will that help when they attack your oil tanker with an RPG?
Pay up or we sink your ship? Think of the enviormental damage that could be caused.
The max range of an RPG-7 is 920 meters. The max effective range of a Browning .50 cal is 2000 yards, with a max range in the neighbourhood of, if I remember correctly, 7000 yards. No contest. Plus the pirates are firing from a small boat, so the person firing the RPG will have to contend with wind, waves, wake, incoming fire and the small boat manoeuvering to avoid said incoming fire.

What happens when they get heavy machine guns (like Somali warlords used on their 'technicals' back in the 90s) or even autocannon? Then they outrange you again...so you get a 57 mm Oerlikeron like on Canadian frigates...so they buy black market Silkworms or Exocets...see where this is heading?
QBall: your name reminds me something I've read. The call it a Q-Ship. It's a heavily armed ship looking to be a merchant ship. The arms are hidden and they were used a lot during WWII to counter the U-boats.
They could have continued the gravy train if they just avoided a US vesel..
Revenge? What are they going to do capture some more ships?
Al Qaeda I am sure has some factions operating among these pirates and the US Navy ship USS Cole was attacked in Somalian waters.
Somali may turn out to be Obama's Iraq.

At least there would be a reason to be there

The merchant ships need a Naval escort like China does already....

TOWS Have a longer range than RPG's, achieve peace with superior firepower.
Revenge? What are they going to do capture some more ships?
They already have plenty.
