However, the tax payer should decide where his school taxes are directed, whether they choose Public or Catholic. If my kids attend Catholic school I want my taxes directed there, if public the same, private school as well.

If this womans argument was about the funding formula she would have a case but it isn't, she just doesn't like Catholic teachings.

Works that way in Alberta too. I could be misremembering but i remember there being a 'No preference' box as well.

There shouldn't be a choice. One public system.

If you want your child to be taught any religion do so on your own time and your own dime.

I think if you don't check either box specifically in Edmonton, they automatically split it up for both, which I don't particularly like. I made sure to check public school only.

I'm pretty sure it's automatically defaulted to the public system in Alberta. At least it was years ago.

What if I want my taxes directed to a Wiccan school. And we need a school board then that explicitly promotes atheism. etc etc etc

It's very possible I'm wrong (in fact I hope I am) - I'm just going off my memory from what I read the last time I got my tax statement.

Times have changed, you can enroll children in a Catholic School and have them abstain from religious services. Its funny how its always the atheists that bitch about this stuff and very rarely other denominations.

My eldest son went to a Catholic school. There were also Muslims, Protestants, and Buddhists and all of them took turns at the altar during Mass. My mother went to a Catholic high school as well. She and the other Protestant girls were only excused from Mass. Both my grandparents and my wife and myself paid the tuition out of pocket. No public funds.....and for women who took a vow of celibacy some of those nuns really knew how to screw you over. To this day, the school chaplain is a personal friend. A Spanish Dominican priest.....some of my ancestors...hell most ..are likely spinning like a gyroscope. everyone seems to bitch about the religion, but from my own personal experience, it's academics that the Church schools excel at
