A push to include modern conflicts on the National War Memorial doesn't seem to be gaining traction with the federal government.

Why do we need to create another statue? as mentioned there is a Peacekeeping memorial. I believe afghanistan needs to be added to the current national memorial, we were actively engaged in combat operations and suffered casulties. The reluctance of RCL does not surprise me, WWII and Korean vets have very little to do with it due to their dwindling numbers and age, it is primarily an organization run now by "cold war' commandos and guys who never even served, or had a cup of coffee in uniform, who are bitter at the lack of recognition for their generations "cold war" To many guys in the legion with more medals on the right side of their tunic than on the left.

What's the significance of that if you don't mind me asking?

You wear the medals you gained on the left side.

You wear the medals your family members gained on the right.

Negative, the medals the legion wears on the right are for stuff you do while being a legion member, they have nothing to do with military service.

Number of darts thrown, number of sneering glances and snide remarks, number of potential ordinary members driven away, you know - the usual stuff.

Actually, you are not allowed to wear someone else's medals.

It's against the law in Canada. Section 419 in the Criminal Code of Canada.

In the UK relatives can wear the medals over the right lapel on certain occasions.

Also commemorative and non-official medals on the right, I believe.

Edit: Oops--Pen beat me to it.

That's not too much to ask for a memorial for veterans. Covers everyone then.
