Gov. Gen. David Johnston will serve as the sharp end of a political stick that the Harper government is pointing at China this coming week, amid renewed concern that Chinese investment in Canada is drying up.

Big surprise, the Chinese money dries up when they're told they can't buy majority stakes throughout the 'patch.

They wanted to run the show.

They'll come around. They need the oil to keep those unpaid interns slaving, the prison re-education centers running, the organ harvesting centers operating(pun intended)the hundreds of millions of factory workers making poisoned crap for our populous working and the billion cars they have stuck in gridlock operational, just in case the get the traffic pattern figured out.

So yah, it's not a big deal that they're trying to play hardball. To bad it isn't going to work because their needs are bigger than ours and without oil their economy crashes while they go bankrupt. So the GG can tell them to kiss his large white Gwai Lo ass if they don't like the way we run our country.

S'okay. When the U.S. Government defaults on interest payments on their Treasury Bills, the Chinese will be falling all over each other while trying to invest in this place, instead.

Well with Gawadar port opening in Pakistan and the Chinese running the place and planned link direct from the port to the Chinese border they would have very easy access middle eastern oil and probably will.

Oh, yes ... that "safe" oil supply from the Middle East. Wait until the Chinese get thoroughly sucked up into THAT quagmire. They can take over the mess as the Americans exit the region. Careful what you wish for.

Well China has started less wars and invaded less countries in the past 50 years or so than the Americans, so I don't think so the will getting into much shit in the middle east. Plus the GCC countries are on pretty good terms with the Chinese and Pakistan and China are in good buddies.

They only thing I can think off creating waves is US pressure and meddling with the GCC. The GCC needs the US on its side to save them from big bad Iran sitting a stone throw away.

But China is chummy with Iran too so maybe can play mediator and secure some kind of peace of mind for the GCC that its and won't bite so basically you all can play nice.

With the US declining and China emerging as the new super power. Very much possible

The Brits announced today they will fast track visa applications for the UK, being included in any visa application to the EU.
    Guess they need money too.

I would assert that the only reason the Chinese haven't gotten into as many quagmires as the Americans is solely due to a lack of capability. As their power grows their belligerence is increasing.

The PRC has invaded or had border skirmishes with many of its neighbors. Most of the battles/wars the PRC has been in, they initiated.

Chinese invasion and annexation of Tibet

Korean War - China went to war against the United Nations. Not too many countries can put that on their resume.

Sino-Indian War - China attacked India.

Sino-Vietnamese War - China attacked Vietnam.

Chola Incident - China infiltrated Indian territory, caused a border skirmish.

Sino-Soviet border skirmish - China attacked Soviet Union.

Battle of Paracel Islands - China seized islands from South Vietnam

Chinese annexation of Johnson South Reef (against Vietnam)

Chinese annexation of Mischief Reef (within Philippine EEZ).

And of course don't forget the ongoing saga of the South China Sea, where they essentially claim as theirs.

Most of them are territorial disputes with neighbors and most ended as soon,as they started. India has issues with all sides of its borders and they always cry bitch. And China won't seriously fuck with India, Pakistan, Russia or Iran. Three of them nukes and including Iran has sizeable fighting forces.

China is already investing a whole lot of money on Iran's oil infrastructure as well as Pakistan so it has its plans. And I as a Pakistani rather have a big and powerful neighbors as an ally. Than far off broke US where both countries pretend to be allies but stabbing each other in the back 24/7.

China Pakistan and Iran can benefit each other alot, although ofcourse the US will and probably does have its knickers in a twist over this. And if Canada wants to come and play they would be most welcome I'm guessing.

Maybe the Arabs will realize they really don't need to rely on the US for a lot. They already have good relations with most Europeans and maybe US interference in the region will end.

I agree that the Chinese have long lacked the ability to invade/attack many places, but that list isn't any shorter than US interventions in the same time frame.

Historically, China hasn't had a leader with global hegemonic intentions and for the most part, they don't really care too much for anything other than their part of the globe.

I'd further argue that their historical dominance of East Asia isn't all that different than the US Monroe Doctrine - they expect to be the leading power in the area in which they reside and don't want outsiders influencing events there.

If that is true, and it probably is, it is just a matter of time until the Chinese come to blows with the interloping Russians who have taken over their ancient Northern frontier so aggressively over the last 300 years. That must really bug the Chinese to have Russia breathing down their necks, like that.
