A declaration of war by Canada is a formal declaration issued by the Government of Canada (the federal Crown-in-Council) indicating that a state of war exists between Canada and another nation. It is an exercise of the Royal Prerogative on the constitutional advice of the ministers of the Crown in Cabinet and does not require the direct approval of the Parliament of Canada, though such can be sought by the government. Since gaining the authority to declare war under the Statute of Westminster 1931, Canada has declared war only during the Second World War.

Nope not at war. The condition for war to exist between 2 nations is well defined and there is absolutely no need to muddy those waters.

We don't need a war on drugs, a war on marriage, a war on poverty, a war on ignorance, a war on terror, etc

You see none of those things are actually war. Words matter, lets keep it that way.

He was just being a stickler about the term "war". Should have not said it, but whatever.

So when ISIS says "We are coming and we will destroy you. . ." they didn't declare war on us? I guess it's OK then if we ignore their declaration. I'm sure they'll understand.

No, only 2 nations can be at war, a terrorist threat is not a declaration of war.

Your willingness to accept their declaration as legitimate only validates their "state".

They are terrorists, they are criminals, we are on a mission to destroy them. We are not at war with this non-existent state because there is no such thing as war with a non-state.

You know the video targeting West Edmonton Mall wasn't a declaration of War or threats of an attack.

There is no spinning. It cannot be defined as war. Plain and simple. End of story. If you want to grant them state status they we could possibly declare war until then it is completely impossible by the textbook definition. Google it people.
