After first denying it. Here's how the Trump team responded BEFORE they were forced to admit it:

The Trump campaign on Tuesday dismissed criticism that Melania Trump directly lifted two passages nearly word-for-word from the speech that first lady Michelle Obama delivered in 2008 at the Democratic National Convention, calling the complaints "just absurd."

Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort insisted no mistakes had been made with the speech and said the issue was "totally blown out of proportion."

"Nobody believes she did it," he told The Associated Press. "Nobody believes it. There were a few words on it, but they're not words that were unique words. Ninety-nine percent of that speech talked about her being an immigrant and love of country and love of family and everything else."

Mrs. Trump's star turn at the Republican National Convention Monday night captivated a GOP crowd that had rarely heard from the wife of Donald Trump. The passages in question focused on lessons that Trump's wife says she learned from her parents and the relevance of their lessons in her experience as a mother.

Manafort told CNN Mrs. Trump was aware of "how her speech was going to be scrutinized" and said any notion that she picked up portions of Mrs. Obama's convention talk was "just absurd." He also tried to blame Hillary Clinton.

"I mean, this is, once again, an example of when a woman threatens Hillary Clinton, how she seeks out to demean her and take her down," Manafort said. "It's not going to work."........

    No. Well, not today anyway.

Why is anyone even talking about this? It was a political speech FCS. Nobody was hurt by it, no massive changes in political policy will come from it. If she was writing a Freshman English essay at University, she would be given a 0. It wasn't. It was a speech!

The head of the Toronto District School Board had to resign for plagiarism. University Students get suspended or even expelled for it.

The fate of the nation doesn't hang on it but stealing someone else's words and passing them off as your own is just another example of the Trump campaign's lack of substance (being unable to express genuine thoughts) as well as a lack of integrity.

It's just a speech, nothing more. If she had made a speech at Christmas and said " Ho Ho Ho" does she need a footnote attributing it to Santa?

She stole more than just 3 words and as the OP says they admitted to the plagiarism.

    It doesn't matter to Republicans.
Most cons are incapable of original thought anyways.

Here is a line-by-line comparison, again the Trump campaign has admitted to it.

It's still just a speech! If you pick nits all the time, you look like a nitpicker. There must be other, actually important things to disagree with the trump campaign on.

I guess that means you've spent the last eight years really upset that a noted plagiarist like Joe Biden has been a heartbeat away from becoming POTUS if anything happens to Obama, eh?

Biden plagiarized in a speech he made in 1988. If Melania wants to give it another shot im 20 years I'll keep an open mind.

At least Biden ripped off a speech from a politician in another country; Melania stole from the current US incumbent of the position she hopes to gain.
