Wish you weren't here: The devastating effects of the new colonialists A new breed of colonialism is rampaging across the world, with rich nations buying up the natural resources of developing countries that can ill afford to sell. Some staggering deals have already been done, says Paul Vallely, bu...

The "Competition" the Harris gov't brought into hydro through deregulation has been the biggest scam ever. Not a single customer who switched the DE, Enbridge or any of the other "carriers" has saved a single penny to date. They sign you up for 5 years and tell you that you'll pa...

Only military units fly it upside-down to signify that they are in distress. It's not for civillians.

The flag should also not be flown at night unless it is illuminated and should be destroyed when it becomes faded or torn.

I do wonder if maybe their time and effort could be best spent on things that REALLY matter. Like preventing the abuse of children and the elderly to name just two.

It is now a social welfare program. HARDLY!! The benefits, eligiblity and duration have all been strictly reduced. Instead of creating a separate benefit for pregnancy/parental leave (the same thing) they were added into the existing UI/EI program as a 'cost saving' measure, not an extra social pro...

What a bunch of crap. Go to a medical clinic on Sunday and surprise its closed! what'd he do next, go to the bank at midnight and claim the financial system is broken because the bank was closed? What doctor is open on sundays, let alone sees patients without apointments? Then he goes to the ER acti...

I'm a big Leos fan but I'm an even bigger Riders fan, I love SSK-BC games, they're my fave! Was good to see the Lions win one though, I hate seeing them at the bottom of the league. Interesting bad call on the Leo's TD after 'dribbling' the ball downfield on the Rider's fumbled kick return. It turns...

Keynesianism never worked. That's what prolonged the Great Depression. Hoover was doing the good thing and then with the spending of FDR, they went further into debt triggering the Great Depression. What I'm afraid of is that the same thing will happen again with Obama. We are getting out of recess...

Also, with respect to Japan, while economic growth slowed during the "lost decade," GDP never fell below the peak of the pre-crisis bubble and unemployment never went above 5.5 percent. So it was the abandoment of Keynesiansism and the tolerance for financial speculation that Keynes warned...

It's not true that it never worked...Keynesian economic theory dominated from the end of the Great Depression through the "golden age of capitalism" and the longest ever period of recorded growth that lasted until the late 60's - early 70's. The Japanese recession was triggered by a build-...

I've been saying for years that schools should put the 'economics' in home economics and make it a mandatory course. Everything we're exposed to in mass media and pop culture conspires to drag us into consumer debt, buy copius amounts of things we don't need and can barely afford on store credit. Ev...

Remember though EI only pays a MAX of 55% of your insurable earnings or $474 a week, (whichever is LOWER) so I don't think there are really alot of people "couch surfing" while on EI, the hardship is its own motivator to return to the workforce. There is a big societal problem with skyrock...

I think the "economists" know what they're generally doing, the disconnect is in the assumption that they work the public interest and recommend policy based on what is good for the Canadian worker. In reality, the school of economics that is most dominant in the west, especially the "...
