FFS folks, Layton was the leader of the opposition and Flaherty was the Minister of Finance, neither of which qualifies them for the messiah status or utter scorn some people seem to want to heap on them. They did their jobs, just like the guy who fixes your toilet or picks up your trash, ju...

That is all true. My concern about what this guy has written is the timing. I mean, regardless of what kind of finance minister he was, he just freekin' died and there should be some period of respect for him. Then, when appropriate, back to politics. However, at the speed with which the news (and ...

Somehow Pierce Brosnan, whether in the role of James Bond or anything else, seems to me to be one of those actors who you know is acting. The really good actors make you forget they're acting.

You know, it's good to see both sides of the coin.

Politicians are partisan, and they can rightly be attacked (posthumously or not) as well as lionized. So far, almost everything I've seen is lionizing, which doesn't tell the whole story.

I peruse the on line editions of quite a few newspapers, but I could save myself the trouble. They mostly report on the same things.

Whenever one goes to "pay-to-view" I drop it from my list. I can get the same stuff elsewhere for free.

Briar Island at the end of the Digby Neck, Nova Scotia side of the Bay of Fundy is another cool, off-the-beaten-path place ... a bit like a Newfoundland out-port. You get to see the last of the Right Whales before they are right extinct. Been there. Nice spot. We took a 3 hr. whale-watching tour on...

Two tonnes of ammonium nitrate.

You realize how many people that could have killed?

And he gets parole when? Probably 10 years or less. He should be in prison for life.

WTF does a failed neighborhood in Detroit have to do with oilsands? That neighborhood fell into ruin forty years ago and that has nothing at all to do with the oilsands and everything to do with a series of corrupt Democrat regimes ruining the city and raping the public treasury. I think you...

There is such a thing as credible presence, and I think we are falling short.

To hell with danger. You should've been running Linux on that sucker years ago! I've still got several of those around running Mint 12, 13, 14. Way faster than XP and no looking back. Some models were a PITA do kick up to 2GB RAM though. And a cheap 32 or 64GB SSD - the XP ones slowed so much in ti...

You are, of course, quite right. For the record, Pierre Trudeau was right too when he pointed out that Quebec couldn't expect to thrive if it stayed closed off and insular...but at the same time his reforms did not address the fundamental concerns Quebecers had about languages and cultures. How do ...

I've got an old Acer "Aspire One" that runs on Windows XP. What's the danger of running it for a few things like Netflix and some email? Can the shared accounts affect the computers I use with Windows 7 and Windows 8?

Corruption is bad no matter where it happens. It's unfortunate that native reserves, which can generally afford it less than other places, seem to be more afflicted with it. The native ideal of communal existence doesn't seem to cover these bastards who will climb over the miseries of their people a...
