He said otherwise. He had more years in the service then you have been alive. I trust him and I don't trust you. 'nuff said.

O.K. If that's the take you want to have, then I was in army and you weren't. My opinion counts yours doesn't. 'nuff said.

I'm sorry but MCB is right on this point. I am currently working with about 2500 soldiers and 1/3 of Canada's Combat soldiers and everytime I here anything resembling a grumble on politics I tend to dig a little further. As far as I can tell you most (as in 9/10) are saying a great deal of bad things about the Liberal Gov't because they in the last 50 years have had the worst track record on cutting the military
Derby Replied:

I'm sure loads are grumbling. He said that the grumbling always went against the party in charge. The food and the gov't were always the targets.

Grumbling about food? When was your dad in the forces, during the Boer War? Military food is generally pretty good nowadays. Soldiers don't exist on hard tack and beans anymore Derby. I don't recall too many serious gripes on that front.

As for who has cut the military the most, the PC gov't was just as bad

No they weren't. Give me an example if you believe that Derby. The 1980's under Mulroney saw a huge increase in military funding after years in the wilderness under Trudeau. In 1990, we had a force of about 80 000+ troops, today we're struggling to break 50 000. We had 9 infantry battalions, an Airborne Regiment, 4 armoured Regiments, and Air Defence Regiment, and 4 artillery Regiments. Our navy was slated to get long needed new helicopters.

Today we have 9 far understrength infantry battalions (we had to canabalize other units to make up the full battle group in Afghanistan), our 6 remaining artillery and armoured units are rusted out shadows of their fomer selves, we have no Airborne force beyond a few scattered parachute trained infantry companies with no real capability, and the only ships our maritime helicopters are capable of taking out are their own when they crash into them during takeoff!

and they managed to put us so far in debt that the only way we can truly repair and re-equip the military would be to put us much farther in debt. They did us no favours.

It was Trudeau who started the debt cycle. Mulroney and the PC's learned it from the best. At least they made some limited attempts to get the deficit under control. I didn't see Mulroney building any airports at Mirabelle.

Can I third myself for the "flaming medal" as long as it has a disclaimer that applies only in ref to Avro. The man spouts non-stop bullshit rhetoric, has no original thought processes, and occasionally goes off the deep end against Christians and Conservatives. You will note that he is the only person that I will attack on a personal level due to the fact that he is a hypocritical moron!

I may not agree with most liberal/anti-conservatives, or anti-religion types or what they have to say but most aren't the idiots that he is. If that warrants a flamer medal, then so be it. I'll wear it proudly. But how about a right-wing medal, or a veteran medal, or federalist or military buff medals. Lord knows (sorry Derby) I would qualify for all of them as well

Well now that the election is over, Call me late on this topic, Call me naive, call me narrow-minded.

I usually only pay attention to ridings where I am Currently Living(CFB Petawawa) and my home town (Oromocto or CFB Gagetown) With Military members and their families making up a huge part of the population in those towns, I can tell you that they both voted Conservative, like many other serving members they are getting sick and tired of cut after cut, If Steven Harper wants to deploy us on a more regular basis, I say do it, just give us the resources to do it with.

My post specifically referenced the fact that I asked him about how the military generally felt about the PC gov't and it was his belief that I posted that you disagreed with. BTW, since I consider you little more then a blatant anti-Canadian fuckwit your opinion never ever matters.

I worked in the base messes as a GSfos2 for 2 years. I know full well the quality of the food and heard plenty of grumbling. The comment was meant as a general standby said about soldiers since the days of the Boer war. You are either lying about being in the military or lying about soldiers grumbling about the food.

Now compare with what we had in 84 and see how it got cut. Now factor in the fact that the Chretein Libs had a massive debt to defeat and much of that meager purchases you tout were part and parcel to the 8 consecutive 30 billion dollar deficits. I doubt you can understand the idea of getting out of debt very well but try your best.

BTW, the Libs purchased the coyotes, the subs (blame the brits) to name a few. The Libs could have spent the last 12 years running 30 billion dollar deficits as well but then we'd be bankrupt and have no country let alone a military.

You are wrong (as always) in your belief that the PC gov't was a upward blip in an otherwise liberal only decimation of our military.

BTW, ask Shepardsdog about anger towards the PC gov't (something to do with pensions if I remember).
