Let me know if Stephen Harper rapes and bankrupts (literally) the province that you live in and then see if you have a different viewpoint after that.

Whatever people think about PET, he changed the political landscape in Canada and a lot of people admire him.

I can't see anything wrong with naming a school after him.

I never voted for Trudeau, but as a former Prime Minister the idea of naming a school after him ANYWHERE should be allowed.

BTW there's a main street in Quebec City named after Wolfe. I guess they have a little more class than Alberta.

PublicAnimalNo9 PublicAnimalNo9:
That would be like naming a new school in Quebec City, "General Wolfe"

Their school motto could be, ' Now, maybe you'll remember!'

Can't see much wrong with a bunch of guys wearing bowlers, a black suit and an orange sash going for a stroll in their own country either.

That's the most sensible thing I've read on this thread yet, and the fact that it is coming from a well-known conservative on the board makes its sensibility even more noticeable.

Congratulations, I am awarding you the only reputation point I have ever given anyone. For good form...

This probably wounldn't have been an issue in any rpovice save for Alberta.

Completely agreed. It's ridiculous.

No, it's not. Trudeau fucked Alberta on purpose, just because it made him look good in Ontario and Quebec. That, and the fact that he always hated us and probably thought it was incredibly funny to hurt us as hard as he could. Every time you hear some local Alberta redneck bozo spouting off about "Alberta separation" remind yourself that you can trace the entirety of the western separatist sentiment and the anger right back to the deliberate actions of one Pierre Eliot Trudeau. Just because you're too young to have been around back then doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Alberta hates Quebec and Quebec hates Alberta. Why? Because they're the same thing, except at opposite ends of the spectrum. They walk around everywhere with this huge chip on the shoulders and a perennial victim's complex, convinced that everyone outside of Alberta/Quebec is trying to screw them, and convinced that the only reason that Canada passes the grade as an acceptable nation is because of heir contribution.

The big difference being, Alberta is a 'have' province and Quebec is a 'have not' one.

Bullshit to all. It's not about Quebec hating. It's about the hatred Trudeau and the Liberals had/have for Alberta that led them to treat us like a bunch of mooks that they could steal from any time they felt like it.

By the time of the 1980 referendum Trudeau was hated almost as much in Quebec as he was in Alberta. It's more like (and this is where the knee-jerky reflexivity of the average Alberta redneck really pisses me off) that Alberta and Quebec have more in common than most suspect, and that both provinces should work closely together to derail Liberal Ottawa and it's grand, never-ending scheme to corral all meaningful political and economic power under it's own authority. We've both historically been screwed over by the current federalist system and neither of us have any reason whatsoever to hold much trust in the federal government. The fact that too many people refuse to see that overly concentrated and centralized federal government power is the true bane of everyone in Canada invariably depresses the hell out of me.

And Alberta should be sharing with the rest of the country...and that includes Québec. The we are all in it together applies from coast to coast.

Isn't Calgary building some super expensive toilet on a bridge? If so, what an appropriate object to place Trudeaus name on.

I disagree

Trudeau burnt bridges and never took shit from anyone that was trying to cross.

I truly appreciate that MacDoniall.
I view you as an articulate and educated debater. I might not agree with you on many points but I do read your posts and take your input as a viable alternative to my own views.

The whole French/English thing has been a learning curve for me and the logic of your arguments (along with some other noted Quebec members of CKA) has meant that I have had to revisit some of my preconceived notions on this issue.

Trudeau is a Canadian that will not be forgotten. Let’s name a few schools after him.
