I'm as big a free-speech advocate as you'll find, but the "hecker's veto" isn't censorship; it's an ESSENTIAL part of free-speech. It's the freedom to call-out fucktards who exercise idiotic speech. You can't advocate free speech and at the same time criticize folks for responding to it. That's why we want free-speech: to allow douchebags to be identified for their doucebagary and be called on it. That's the chance you take when you say outrageous things. Nonesense, like Ann Coulter's, being shut down by the people, instead of the police waving hate-speech laws, is exactly how this behaviour should be dealt with.

When I was at the University of Montreal we had some conferences from very extreme leftwing people talking about revolution, revolt and "bringing down the system". They were never prevented to speak and i've been to one. I was totally against the opinion and so were a lot of people but we were able to ask question and give our opinion at the mike. We didn't "rush the place", started a fire alarm or anything to stop those people from telling those things.

Give up Proc. The radical left in the country is just as bad as the radical right, your allowed to speak only if we like you, everything else is spin and bullshit. Some people are trying to blow smoke up your ass by about who shut down what in order to not deal with the fact that left wing loonies stalk the halls of Ottawa U.

For the 'record', I believe in Free Speech, and I support Canadian hate crime laws.
I believe speech is a weapon to some people, especially when they hold a significant
amount of power, like Ann Coulter does through her little movement.
Exploitative, discriminating, and a threat to society.
Not to mention that she's so amazingly retarded that she should get a medal for being able to speak English.

Letting stupid persons talk (or even live) is the price to pay to live in a free society.

There's this guy passing by my house to walk his dog every night. The dog is the uglier dog you would ever see. Just looking at him, I want to throw up. I would say that I would have some satisfying feelings if an 'accident' happened to that dog. Things ugly like that should not be have the right to live. Unfortunetly, I have to deal with it

To make a parallel with you, I have a perfect situation.

A friend of mine was walking in the streets of Montreal at night, going home. He had a red shirt, written "CCCP" with the hammer and sickle. Well, at a corner 3 guys passed by him and began to hassle him "Fuckin' communist!". Last thing he remembers, he wakes up beaten up bad in the hospital.

What's worse between the "Fuck niggers" and "CCCP" t-shirts ?
