Proculation Proculation:
Something struck me last night.

Sure, it's a forum and it's not representative of all english canada.

But, in French Canada, in the french forums, the response was mostly "free speech was censored". It's NOT 90-10% but I think it's much more divided than in english canada.

You know that Quebec is more left-wing than the rest of Canada and I would think the social opinion would be more "the students were right to prevent her to talk". Strangely, most people thought that she's a stupid b**ch but she should have been able to speak.

Maybe someone could make a thesis on that strange phenomenon

Don't you language laws to curtail Anglo free speech?

They tried but were overwhelm. That was the point. They evacuated the place and after that the event was canceled for security reasons.

I don't understand how it's so difficult to understand.

You CAN think it's a good thing that have done because you think there are people that should be stop from talking. It's your opinion. My opinion is the contrary.

When I was at the University of Montreal we had some conferences from very extreme leftwing people talking about revolution, revolt and "bringing down the system". They were never prevented to speak and i've been to one. I was totally against the opinion and so were a lot of people but we were able to ask question and give our opinion at the mike. We didn't "rush the place", started a fire alarm or anything to stop those people from telling those things.

Give up Proc. The radical left in the country is just as bad as the radical right, your allowed to speak only if we like you, everything else is spin and bullshit. Some people are trying to blow smoke up your ass by about who shut down what in order to not deal with the fact that left wing loonies stalk the halls of Ottawa U.
This just made Ottawa U look bad, Considering her speaking tour was about Political Correctness gone mad what transpired just proved her point.

Yet in another thread, you're all over curtailing freedom of expression by banning burkas. Make up your hypocrtical mind already.

Can't see the forest from the trees can you ?
Freedom of expression ? ROTFL More like freedom of Oppression. But don't take my word for it.

Go argue with Muslims about it.

But you're starting from a false premise. It's lefties that tend to champion free-speech; censorship is a conservative thing. What you've recognized isn't a phenomenon. It makes perfect sense that a more "left-wing" society would tolerate more.

What I see is you cherry picking freedoms according to your flavour of the day outrage.

Make up your mind already.

I dunno, from what I see, most of the voices on campuses calling for a "safe environment" (from opposing ideas, or insult) seem to be lefties. The whole PC movement seems pretty left, and it's about censoring speech.

I would probably be considered left by most right wingers. I've always been envious how right wing publications seem to be much more willing to discuss left wing ideas than vice versa. Of course media like Fox and the ravers are as intolerant to other ideas as any lefty pc.
