Bernier obviously isn't cut out for Ministerial positions evidently, small fuck ups one after another add up quickly.
At least it will give the oppositon parties something to milk for the next couple of weeks, to bad they coudln't just get back to running the country. Soap Opera shannanigans will dominate the house over nothing for the next little while, too bad.

It's an interesting illusdtration of the differences between Quebec Tories and Quebec Liberals. A Quebec Tory gets into trouble, is forced to resign in disgrace, probably won't be able to run in the next election, and has to re-enter private life. A Quebec Liberal is known to be connected to organized crime mafiosi, turns his ministership at Public Works into his own corrupt financial fiefdom, his activities finally gets noticed by our lazy one-sided press corps, and instead of resigning is awarded the ambassadorship to Denmark.
Different strokes for different folks, n'est pas? If you're a Tory it's the end of the world. If you're a Liberal from the Natural Governing Party it's just business as usual and the zombies in the pro-Liberal press all go along for the ride. The self-righteous stench of Canadian hypocrisy is reaching an all-time high over this issue.

I think that the big story here is that the documents were out of place for 5 weeks without anyone knowing about it. It certainly brings our nations security into question. How many other of our nation's secrets are floating around at some biker whore's home ?
For a government that acts so secretly when dealing with it's own matters, I sure wish they had the same consideration for our nation's classified information.
I felt a little less safe this morning.

Yes, Al-Qaeda's going to drop the big one on us all because of the information that Julie Couillard sold to them.
Grow the fuck up already.

Well, Maybe you do not take issues like National security and our nation's international reputation seriously, but many Canadians actually do.
Did you ever stop to consider how this bumblefuck is going to make us look on the world stage ? Can this government be trusted with sensitive information ? If not, what kind of role does that leave for us ?
This is a bad day for the Conservatives, but an even worse day for Canada.

Which ever party it is , its all a political game.Set up for the next election. Harper gave cabinet minister jobs to the few Quebec elected available. Gee um I guess competence wasn't an issue nor the fact that he was a rookie in politics. So defend the Conservative government if you want but its all the same. Theres no Governing in Parlement.... "plus que ca change plus que c'est la meme chose"

As I'm not a Liberal I take national security very seriously, which puts me in direct opposition with Liberals who spent decades to make the military, CSIS, and the RCMP into laughing stocks.
Things like making up idiot excuses for some joke of a past PM not attending King Hussein of Jordan's funeral, or ignoring the pleas for help from your top general on the ground and sitting by ineptly while half of Rwanda is macheted to death, or doing nothing when Serbian militiamen handcuff a Canadian officer to a tree and use him as a photo-op are what make Canada look bad on the international stage. Firing an incompetent foreign affairs minister who was in over his head doesn't even rate on the scale.

This is a bad day for the Conservatives, but an even worse day for Canada. Keep this in context of everything else, his resignation was accepted due to a long list of little fuck ups, its not like he was stealing tax-payers money to illegal pump more fuel for Liberals in Quebec. Too bad theres an uspoken rule about balancing your party out with enough Quebecers that has to be followed, otherwise they could of had a Great Minister of Foreign Affairs. I didnt note who the interim replacement is, but I can gurantee you if he/she doesn't speak french well enough. The opposition parties will be complaining about that next, stay tuned.

Maybe you should run for PM, you seem to have all the answers to all the problems - if only thay were so black and white. Max's problem is very black and white. He's a fucking idiot. Easy to get rid of and had Harper half a brain he would have seen that after Max called for the removal of that Afgani politician. And you fools sat there and defended Bernier through all this too. Like I said - you are your own worst enemies. We just need to sit here and point out blunder after blunder and all you can come up with is that same old shit about Liberal corruption. Who cares? I'm not a liberal either.

Can anyone think of a reason why Harper might want to surround himself with incompetent boobs other than the obvious need to be in control ?

I'm not a liberal either. I actually kept my opinions on Bernier reserved until the resolution of this situation came about. The man quit and is gone, but the slander against Julie Couillard, who hasn't been proven guilty of anything so far, at the hands of the Liberals continues unabated. Case closed. The greater overall matter is that the Liberals would have gotten away with this sort of thing, just like they did with Alphonso Gagliano and the rest whose misdeeds, which were all uniformly much worse than what Bernier did, during the Chretien years were ignored by the pro-Liberal press. Sorta like when Art Eggleton walked away unscathed from his own personal Bimbogate when it was revealed he was using taxpayer money to pay for his high-maintenance girlfriend's bubbleheaded lifestyle I'll admit however that Harper showed bad judgement in putting Bernier in a post he wasn't suited for, but I also doubt that it'll make any difference to anyone come election time.

Delwin Delwin: Can anyone think of a reason why Harper might want to surround himself with incompetent boobs other than the obvious need to be in control ? Why shouldn't he? The precedent was already firmly established by Jean Chretien and Paul Martin. It continues today under Stephane "Chalk White" Dion, who has a critic under his supervision who is so blantantly stupid he needed a CBC reporter to think up his questions for him.

well i wasn't that surprised that he resigned , could sort of see the writing on the wall . but really he is only really guilty of dating the wrong girl and some careless behaviour . mean as a cabinet minister he hadn't ever done anythign that would of been grounds for resigning before this story made the news. the opposition seems to be making more personal attacks now than talking about the issues , rather disapointing i must say .
